In the Roro-Jojohatu areas, the chromite bearing ultramafic rocks is emplaced within the metasedimentary rocks of the Iron Ore Group of the Singhbhum Craton.
The ultramafic rocks are metamorphosed into greenschist to amphibolite facies.
Chromite deposits have been reported from the area since 1907. Private mining companies earlier mined the area for asbestos and chromites. Chromites could still be located in abandoned mines.
