Hosanger gruvefelt, Osterøy, Vestland, Norge

The Hosanger nickel deposits is located on the western coast of the southern part of Norway, about 20 km NE of the city of Bergen. The Ni bearing ore was discovered in 1875 by Mr. Riis from Bergen, at Litland and Nonås.
An English company, Varaldsø Mining Co. started mining at Nonås in 1882. In 1891 a Swedish company, A/B Os-Hommelvik Kopparverk, took over and built Norway's first cable car which went from from Nonås to Gjetreim.
In 1899 a american company (Thomson ?) took over, but the production stopped already after a short period in 1901.
Kristiansand Nickel Raffineringsverk started in 1925 at Litland. After a bankruptcy in 1920 the work stopped until 1933. The mines was closed in 1945.
The Hosanger deposits (also called in short Hosanger gruve) consisted of 2 different ore fields, Nonsås and Litland respectively.
Recently the Vancouver based company, Blackstone ventures Inc. has done explorartion prospects on the deposits.
