The Ghar Rouban deposits are classified as Mississippi Valley-type (MVT) ores. In the Ghar Rouban area, barite veins are hosted by schists and Hercynian granites in the Paleozoic basement. In the Deglen massif, the barite occurs as strata-bound ore bodies, and vein fillings and replacement of Jurassic limestones of the Mesozoic cover. The barite (Pb-Zn) mineralization in the Ghar Rouban Mountains occurs as veins, stratabound bodies, stockwork fillings, and minor breccias. These occurrences include Ghar Rouban s.s, Beni Snouss, and Beni Bahdel: the mineralized district covers an area of 350 km2.
