Big Nine Mine

Mammoth No. 1 claim (Big Nine mine), near Orient, Stevens Co., WA, was a polymetallic exploration claim active in the mid-1960s under Big Nine Mine & Minerals, Inc. of Orient. Washington mining directories place the property in SE¼ sec. 26, T40N, R36E, & associate it with exploration for Ag-Cu-Pb-Zn. A Washington state mineral report on 1966 activity states that Pb-Zn-Cu showings on the Mammoth claim north of Orient were diamond drilled & evaluated for possible open-pit mining. Available published sources indicate organized exploration, but do not clearly establish the property as a major sustained producer.

"Big Nine Mine and Minerals, Inc. of Orient diamond drilled lead-zinc-copper showings on the Mammoth claim north of Orient. Possible open-pit mining operations are being considered by the company."
