The regional stratigraphy, from oldest to newest, includes the Ordovician Huaniushan Group, Devonian Dundunshan Group, Carboniferous Hongliuyuan and Shibanshan Formations, Permian Shuangbaotang and Jinta Formations, and the Quaternary. The area features well-developed fault structures, predominantly nearly east–west and northeast trending, with the former being more prominent. These faults significantly influence regional stratigraphy, metamorphic deformation, and mineral distribution. Frequent magmatic intrusion activities occurred from the Ordovician to the Triassic, primarily forming bands or sheets. The lithology is complex, with outcrops ranging from ultrabasic to acidic rocks, predominantly intermediate-acidic types, which are closely linked to the genesis of various mineral types in the region.

The complex is a lopolith trending NE with a length of ∼2000 m and a width of ∼500 m. Its northern, western, and southern contact zones dip inward. Six Ni-Cu ore bodies have been delineated within the complex, with average grades of 0.53% Ni and 0.24% Cu. The area hosts felsic, intermediate, mafic, and ultramafic complexes, which form small apophyses, stocks, and dykes. The primary target is locally known as the No. III complex that is ∼860 m long and 15–67 m wide, and is distributed along the Mingyang gully with an arcuate shape trending WNW. Outcrops have a “dyke” morphology, locally transitioning to vein-like and lenticular shapes, with an overall strike of ∼90°. The eastern end deviates slightly northward where it pinches out. The outcrop distribution is locally discontinuous, indicating relatively low continuity. The composition is predominantly serpentinized harzburgite, with local occurrences of pyroxenite and olivine xenoliths.
