Within the mining area, the Paleoproterozoic Gaixian Formation of the Liaohe Group forms the principal ore-host sequence. The dominant lithologies are grayish-black to black sericite phyllite, carbonaceous sericite phyllite, and chlorite-bearing sericite phyllite, with local lenses of metamorphosed quartz sandstone. Gold orebodies are mainly hosted by carbonaceous sericite phyllite and are overall controlled by subhorizontal to gently dipping structural zones. The ore-bearing alteration zone is large, extending for more than 3000 m in an approximately E–W direction, exceeding 2500 m in width in the N–S direction, and reaching as much as 500 m in vertical thickness. Mineralization at Dadonggou combines features of altered-rock type mineralization and quartz–sulfide veinlet/stockwork mineralization. Pyrite is the dominant ore mineral and typically accounts for 3%–5% of the ore, locally increasing to 10%–15%; pyrrhotite and arsenopyrite are also present. Gold mainly occurs as native gold, chiefly as intergranular grains, followed by fracture-filling gold, whereas inclusion gold is subordinate. Hydrothermal alteration is intense and is dominated by silicification, sericitization, pyritization, chloritization, and carbonatization, of which silicification and pyritization are most closely related to gold mineralization.
