Other/historical names associated with this locality:
Rose's Pride; Roses Pride deposit
The mine is named for an early owner Cecil Rose. The location came to light in the 1930s under the ownership of Ollie Archibold, and Bill Runge. (The Cracow Mining Museum, and some literature spell the name Archibald. This is disputed by Runge family members who state the spelling is Archibold). Bill's grandson is Don Runge, who became the first mine manager for the modern Cracow Gold Mine.
In 1936, Archibold and Runge organised a new treatment plant for the Orange Creek Mining syndicate to crush for the Rose's Pride and Blue Bell mines. The plant had a five head stamp battery from Thompson of Castlemaine, Grinder from Forward, Down and Co of Adelaide, and four agitators.
Gold is found in steep dipping low sulphidation epithermal veins along fault structures. Gold is found in one prominent fault, and several mineralised splays. The lodes often contain stockworks of quartz, carbonate and adularia, breccia channels, and massive quartz. The gold is fine, mainly as electrum, and lesser associated with pyrite.
The mine/deposit is at the northern end of the goldfield.
