This Martian meteorite was found in early September 2022 during a meteorite search expedition north of the archaeological area of Taghaza, Mali, by Sahrawi meteorite hunters. The find site lies approximately 73 km SSE of Teghaza and 34 km ENE of Bir Chali. Eight similar-looking stones were recovered, the largest weighing 442 g. The stones lack fusion crust and show sandblasted desert surfaces with fine dark grains, while the larger pieces have caliche coatings where they were partly buried in desert pavement. Fresh breaks reveal pale and brown-orange grains, together with shiny, clear maskelynite.

Petrographic and geochemical study at the University of New Mexico showed the meteorite to consist chiefly of pyroxene and maskelynite, with minor ilmenite, Ti-Cr spinel, Fe-sulfide, silica, and Cl-rich apatite. Pyroxenes include equilibrated pigeonite and sub-calcic augite, some with exsolution lamellae and alteration phases in their cores composed of Fe- and Mn-oxide/hydroxide material. The meteorite is classified as a pyroxene-phyric shergottite, and its Martian origin is supported by pyroxene Fe/Mn ratios, maskelynite composition, and oxygen isotope values consistent with SNC meteorites. Elevated δ18O values are interpreted as the result of mixing between a primary Martian component and higher-δ18O alteration phases.
