Köppen climate type:
From the Early Cretaceous onward, the succession includes clastic carbonates, shale, and conglomerate, locally passing into dolomitic limestone. The ophiolitic complex was tectonically emplaced over neritic limestone during the Late Cretaceous. Ultramafic–mafic rock assemblages crop out as isolated bodies within the Upper Cretaceous succession and are interpreted as fragments of a genetically related ophiolitic mass subsequently disrupted by emplacement and later tectonism. In Hekimhan, the ultramafic and mafic units are cut by syenite–trachyte porphyries. These rocks are unconformably overlain by Eocene and Oligocene marine sedimentary units, with Oligocene–Early Miocene marine deposits locally associated with Miocene volcanism.
