The Gerf assemblage is one of the largest ophiolite occurrences that was exposed in the ANS [Arabian Nubian Shield]; it lies in the SouthEastern part of SED [South Eastern Desert] of Egypt. This assemblage is thrusted over the volcano-sedimentary association (metasediments and felsic to intermediate metavolcanics), later intruded by the layered mafic–ultramafic intrusion, syn- and post-collisional granitoids and cut by mafic and felsic dyke swarms. The Gerf serpentinites are found as sheet-like bodies and lenses covering about 400 km2. The Gerf listvenite is a common alteration product of serpentinite and talc-carbonate rock; particularly along the shear zone.
