Exposed strata at the Toudaoyingzi Au deposit mainly consist of the Mesoproterozoic Changcheng System Tuanshanzi Formation and the Cretaceous Yixian Formation. The former represents a shallow-marine terrigenous clastic‑carbonate succession dominated by quartz sandstone and dolomite, whereas the latter is a continental volcanic-sedimentary sequence chiefly of tuff and volcanic breccia. Fault structures are well developed, dominated by NW- and NE-trending sets; the NW-trending faults crosscut the NE-trending ones and control the spatial localization of Au mineralization. Intense Mesozoic volcanism generated widespread tuffs of the Cretaceous Yixian Formation along with minor andesitic breccias, whereas intrusive activity was limited to minor Jurassic trachyte porphyry. Mineralization of the deposit is similarly concentrated in the Early Cretaceous and is intimately associated with subvolcanic hydrothermal activity. Intense wall-rock alteration, including silicification, muscovitization, argillization, carbonatization, and chloritization, can be broadly divided into two mineralization stages. The main ore-forming stage is characterized by muscovitization, which is most closely related to gold mineralization. The late stage is dominated by argillization and carbonatization, with the argillic alteration typically overprinting early alteration assemblages in pervasive or banded styles. Three Au mineralized bodies have been delineated in the district, all hosted within tuffs of the Cretaceous Yixian Formation and displaying gradual transitional contacts with the wall rocks.
