Rock Springs is a village located along the Baraboo River.

Town with some famous outcrops in road cuts, an abandoned quarry and the world famous Van Hise Rock along the gorge north of town. Van Hise Rock is a boulder showing a contact between phyllite and quartzite, with well developed metamorphic cleavage. The boulder is a classic reference outcrop for these features and a frequent stop for geology field trips. Collecting or defacing outcrop at any of these localities would be geological vandalism.
