The Eagle diamond, a 16.25 yellow diamond, was found by a well digger in 1876 near the town of Eagle. The known human history of this stone ends with its theft from the American Museum of Natural History by "Murph the Surf" in 1964. After the original find, the area was subsequently salted, a hoax later debunked by famous American gemmologist George F. Kunz.
