The Algoma Mine (Sec 33 T47N R29W) was an underground mine. The mine development was begun by the Iron Mountain Mining Company in 1917. Wrokings eventually descending to 160 feet. It produced manganifeorus iron ore from the steeply-dipping Proterozoic Trommald Formation until 1920. There were several manganese-rich ore lenses enclosed in the cherty iron formation. The manganese minerals present were not described, but were likely manganese oxides and hydroxides.
