The Ironton Mine (Sec 11 T46N R29W) was first worked in 1912-1913 by the Cuyuna-Duluth Iron Company. It was later taken over by Inland Steel. The last ore was shipped in 1933. The mine worked hematite from the thin bedded portion of the Proterozoic Trommald Formation. There were several rich ore bodies separated by a mass of chloritic schist.
