An open pit diamond mine in kimberlite pipes, owned by De Beers. The deposit was discovered in 1980 and consists of 14 kimberlite bodies of which the largest two are being mined. The open pit centered on the main pipes also encompasses some of the smaller bodies, though. Venetia is currently the largest diamond producer in South Africa. In 2005, it produced 7.18 million ct from 5.8 million tons of ore.
