A former underground Cu-Au-Pb-Zn-Ag occurrence/mine located in the SW¼ sec. 34, T9S, R3E (Kohatk 7.5 minute topo map), about 3 miles WNW of Kohatk and about 9 miles SE of Little Table Top Mountain. Discovered in 1879 and produced 1882 to 1965. This mine is located about ½ mile SE of the Christmas Gift Mine, about 1 mile NNE of the Phonodoree shaft, and about 5½ miles east of the Vekol Mine. Patented claims include the Reward and Virginia (MS692 AND 693). Previous owners and operators include: The Reward Mining Co. (1880's); United Arizona Copper Co. (1900's); Casa Grande Development Co. (1907-1908); the Reward Mining Co. (Van Brooks) (1914-1916); K. Pomeroy and Dr. Schorneck (1929); Skousen Brothers (1940); R.H. Van Mariel (1941, 1939); M.TS. (?) Copper (1955); L. Guinn, V.V. Burd and D. Chism (1951, 1960). Additional names which apply to this locality: East Reward; Copper Silver; Copper Wedge; Christmas Gift; Virginia Mine; United Arizona Copper Co. property; Patented claim MS 692; London Arizona Co. property; Casa Grande Development Co. property; George shaft.

Heindl (1965), Figure 1, places the Reward Mine approximately 5 miles due east of the Vekol Mine in this district. Some references help to confuse as they are loose with terminology when there is a Vekol Mine, Range, and District.

Mineralization is a replacement deposit hosted in Escabrosa Limestone, Naco Limestone and Martin Limestone. Locally the limestone dips west with east to NE-trending faults; fractures and small N-S faults at the mine. The ore body is lens-shaped and the ore occurs in irregular pods, strikes NE and dips 15-20W at 0.91 meters thick. Ore control was replacement along limestone bedding along NE-trending dikes and west-dipping limestone beds. Alteration was strong oxidation.

Area structures include NE-trending dikes, E-W and NW-trending faults, and west-dipping limestone beds. An E-W fault system runs through the mine area, with short NW-trending side faults.

Workings include over a dozen shafts of 100 feet or more and several long tunnels. Some of the workings include the Reward shaft, the Bat tunnel, and the Phonodoree shaft.
