Started in 1491 and initially worked for silver until the rich ores (mainly argentian tetrahedrite with a silver content of up to 0.5 % w/w) were depleted. In 1515, a new shaft was sunk, which reached its final depth of 235 m in 1533. At this time, the deposit was worked from nine levels. The silver production reached its maximum in 1523, with an output of 15.7 tons. During the following years, the production shifted to copper. The mining activities, however, were continually reduced, due to decreasing prices for copper as a result of several economical and political crises. In 1615, the mine was finally abandoned.
Nowadays a tourist mine ("Silberbergwerk Schwaz").
