Synsedimentary uranium deposit in grey layers within Permian sandstones ('Alpiner Buntsandstein').

The whole area south of Fieberbrunn-Hochfilzen contains widespread, but minor stratiform uranium mineralisation (pitchblende bound to fossilised plants) in connection with sulphide mineralisation (mainly pyrite).
The mineralisation formed in a reducing shallow-water environment.

Further sublocalities with outcrops in this area are:
Eiserne Hand (Hördlinger Gr.), Gaisberg, Gand, Krotenbach (near Fieberbrunn), Rohr, Winkl-Schattseite, Wörglbach.
