Kalkbruch, Jenbach, Inn valley, Nordtirol, Tirol, Österreich
Located east of Jenbach, immediately north of the railroad track.
Operated by Schotterwerk Gubert.
The following are excerpts from their historic page :
Geologically, the hill – a so-called "Reifling Formation" – originated approximately 235 million years ago during the Middle Triassic period. The rock consists of limestone deposits from the approximately 100-meter-deep Tethys Ocean. This ocean stretched from the Alps to the Himalayas.
The quarry in Jenbach was first documented in 1853. Intensive mining activity has been documented since 1890. The high-purity limestone was formerly mined for the production of quicklime, which was located directly in the quarry.
The lime kilns and old production facilities in the western part of the site were replaced by a modern, fully enclosed processing facility in 1999.
Geology
The area belongs to the Tirolikum thrust, specifically the Inntal Thrust Sheet (See "Tiergarten" near Jenbach in GeoSphere).
