Name(s) in local language(s):
Granitsteinbruch Stubenberg, Stubenberg am See, Weiz, Steiermark, Österreich
Located about 1 km west of Stubenberg am See, about 15 km ENE of Weiz, at N47.24498 E15.78856
The quarry exploited a granitic orthogneiss during the 1960s and 1970s. Today very little granite is left behind, the exposed rocks are: paragneiss grading into migmatite, bright phyllonite ("leucophyllite"), granitic orthogneiss, amphibolite, pegmatite, aplite, dolomite marble, calcite-forsterite marble, wollastonite-diopside-grossular-vesuvianite-fels.
Noteworthy for the occurrence of pseudosinhalite, magnesiotaaffeite-6N'3S and magnesiotaaffeite-2N'2S as replacement products of spinel in geikielite–ilmenite–baddeleyite–zirconolite veins within polymetamorphic dolomite marble (Bernhard et al., 2008).
