A former U-V occurrence/mine located in the SW¼ sec. 8, T40N, R29E, G&SRM, 7.7 km (4.8 miles) ESE of Red Mesa (town), at the head of Rattlesnake Canyon cutting into Black Rock Point. The geographic coordinates presented are taken from USGS MRDS database deposit file 10161476.

Mineralization is carnotite and tyuyamunite in irregular tabular layers hosted in Late Jurassic claystone, siltstone and sandstone of the Salt Wash Member of the Morrison Formation on the E limb of the Toh Atin anticline. Ore is found in clusters, usually associated with carbonaceous detritus. Local rocks include rocks of the Morrison Formation.

Workings include underground openings comprised of 1 portal, 2 drifts 450 feet apart and upper level access through a raise.

Production was a total of 3,507 tons @ 1.86% V2O5. mined for vanadium content in 1943-1944 from VCA West Reservation plots 1 & 6-13. Also, minor production from here included with VCA West Reservation plot 6 total.
