Etaneno Complex

Carbonatite complex (calcite carbonatites and nephelinites) hosted in quartzite located on Eisenberg Farm 78 and Hedwigstal Farm 546.

The quartz crystals of the quartzite show numerous solid microinclusions of halides and carbonates precipitated from pristine hydrous carbonate melts (carbonatite-derived fluid trapped under closed-system conditions).

The iron ore posseses good fluxing properties and was formerly used in the smelting of the iron-poor Tsumeb copper-lead ore. Operations resumed in 1963 (Verwoerd 1967) but are no longer active. Syenites with over 12% K₂O₅ and less than 1% Na₂O and negligible dark minerals could be of interest for ceramics.
Iron oxide and REE-bearing Jurassic carbonatite, hosted in syenite and foyaite.
Located 11 km NW of Kalkfeld.

Circular complex 2 km in diameter made up from 4 intrusions of nepheline syenite and one of sodalite syenite.

Geochronology

Mineralization age: Jurassic : 172.8 Ma to 153.6 Ma

Important note: This table is based only on rock and mineral ages recorded on mindat.org for this locality and is not necessarily a complete representation of the geochronology, but does give an indication of possible mineralization events relevant to this locality. As more age information is added this table may expand in the future. A break in the table simply indicates a lack of data entered here, not necessarily a break in the geologic sequence. Grey background entries are from different, related, localities.
