Maine Tin Mine

An occurrence/mine located 3.8 km (2.3 miles) SW of Winslow (E side of Maine State Route 100, approximately 1.5 miles S of the Sebasticook River Bridge, where Chaffee Brook crosses Route 100 Accurate to 100 meters, on private land. Discovered in 1875. Mineral rights include fee ownership and private lease (minerals only). Originally opened in 1880, and operations ceased in that year. A wide variety of minerals have been erroneously reported from this locality, including margarite, which has been proven to be muscovite.

Mineralization is a vein deposit with several veins hosted in slate. Local rocks include rocks of the Silurian Waterville Formation.

Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of an open pit and a 95-foot shaft.
