A former Cr mine located in the SE¼NW¼ sec. 4, T21N, R4E, MDM, 1.0 km (3,300 feet) WNW of Yankee Hill (near the county road). Ceased operations in 1918. Owned and operated by John Wells, California (1976). Owned by Loren Babcock (1976). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 5,000 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in serpentinite, which is highly sheared. The ore body is lenticular, strikes N48W and dips 80NE at a thickness of 65 meters, a width of 16 meters and a length of 180 meters. The ore body(ies) is disseminated, tabular and shear zone. The primary mode of oigin was magmatic differentiation. Primary oe control was lithology. Wallrock alteration is intense (carbonitization). This deposit occurs in a mass of serpentine 300 - 400 feet wide and 0.5 miles long. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 6 (Northwestern Sierra Nevada).
Workings include surface openings comprised of 2 open cuts, the largest of which was 80 feet long, 3 to 20 feet wide and 4 to 10 feet deep.
Production data are found in: Rynearson, Garn Arthur (1953): 281.
Assay analyses results: ^35% Cr2O3.
