Zeolites are abundant in vesicular Miocene basalt exposed in the Beech Creek Quarry, located 10 miles (ca. 16 km) north of the town of Mt Vernon, and 100 yards (ca. 91 m) east of the confluence of the East Fork of Beech Creek with Beech Creek (Highway 395). The quarry was operated by the Forest Service in the 1960s for road building. The rock was very rich in zeolites, especially lévyne with a white overgrowth. The white fibrous overgrowth on lévyne has been described as offretite and erionite. With time, most of the richest rock has been packed away by collectors. (Rudy Tschernich)

NOTE: The zeolite mineral species epitaxially overgrown on lévyne in all cases is identified as erionite, see Passaglia, E., Artioli, G., Gualtieri, A. (1998) Crystal chemistry of the zeolites erionite and offretite. American Mineralogist: 83(5-6): 577-589, available at https://rruff.info/rruff_1.0/uploads/AM83_577.pdf
