A copper mine in a porphyry copper-gold-molybdenum deposit started in 1958. The mine works several ore bodies with different mineralization, among them Dalnee (Cu-Au-Ag), Kal'makyr (Cu-Mo-Au-Ag) and NW Balykty (Cu).
The Almalyk mine field (ore field) forms part of the Chatkal-Kurama ore district.
