An iron property started before 1835. It lies about a mile NE of Anthony's Nose peak (which itself is in neighboring Westchester county), East of the Bear Mountain Bridge, North of Peekskill, NY. (Although historically ascribed to the nearest urban center, Peekskill, which is in Westchester county, the mine is located just over the county line in Putnam Co.)

Although called a "pyrite mine", the main ore mineral was pyrrhotite, with a much lesser amount of pyrite.
