KCAC Mine, San Benito County, California


A former asbestos occurrence/mine located in the N½NW¼ sec. 25, T18S, R12E, MDM, 1.5 km (0.9 mile; 4,600 feet) SW of Santa Rita Peak (coordinates of record), N of the San Benito River (located claim). Discovered in 1957. Owned & operated by KCAC Incorporated (100%), California (1981). First production occurred in 1963. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.

NOTE: The USGS MRDS database file presents MRDS file #10140183 as a related file; however, it pertains to a Cr occurrence with a similar name.

Mineralization is hosted in Late Cretaceous serpentinite of the Franciscan & Panoche Formations. The ore body is 152 meters thick at a width of 6,437 meters, a length of 22,531 meters and a depth-to-top of 0.0 meters. It is a tabular body in a shear zone. The primary mode of origin was metamorphism. Primary ore control was fracturing. There is no wallrock alteration. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 3 (Coast Ranges and Western Klamath Mountains).

Workings include surface openings comprised of a large pit.
