A former Zn occurrence/mine. Active during WWI.
Mineralization is hosted in the Cotter & Powell formations.
Structure: N.70 Degrees E. 300' From The "Bonanza Eighty" Is Wall-Like Fm. Of Chert Breccia, 2-7' High.
Deposit: Deposit restricted to breccias in boone fm., at surface and underground locations formation in 1892 was believed to be of ordovician age. History of records for early arkansas mining is sketchy, poor, and unreliable. Also, what was simply called 'chert' could be a dolomite which has been altered by solution-brecciation ; info.src : 1 pub lit
Development: Bonanza mine, and 2 w.l.s from the singleterry shaft down white river to batesville and thence by rail to st. Louis, mo.
Geology: Ore occurs in breccia, forming a carbonate cement in places; in other places quartz forms the cement. The 'chert' is stratified and unbroken in some places. The chert also contains fragments of saccaproidal sandstone. Numerous cavities which formerly held sphalerite were found empty or filled with red clay with 1.1% metallic zinc.
Ore(s): In Brecciated Zones
