A former underground copper mine, commenced early 1900s.
Please note Cobar is the name of the town and the parish name is also Cobar.
The mine was developed from 1889 and closed 1921. As the New Occidental it re-opened 1933, and became one of the largest gold producers in NSW at this time. It absorbed the New Cobar Mine 1935, and Chesney Mine 1937. New Occidental closed 1952, along with the other two mines. New Occidental again re-opened 2001, and subsequently closed. (2026) A company is looking at treating the tailings (2026).
