Feng Yun 4A [National Satellite Meteorological Center]

China's geostationary meteorological satellite program FY-4 (Feng Yun 4) is the second generation of chinese geostationary meteorological satellites. These satellites will replace the earlier FY-2 series.

FY-4 is a three-axis-stabilized spacecraft based on the SAST-5000 bus. Two satellites will be positioned at 86.5E and 105E. A third position at 123.5E is also under consideration.

Following instruments are carried by the FY-4 series satellites:

FY 4A:

  • AGRI (Advanced Geostationary Radiation Imager)
  • GIIRS (Geostationary Interferometric Infrared Sounder)
  • LMI (Lightning Mapping Imager)
  • SEP (Space Environment Monitoring Instrument Package)

FY 4B:

  • AGRI (Advanced Geostationary Radiation Imager)
  • GIIRS (Geostationary Interferometric Infrared Sounder)
  • GHI (Geostationary High-speed Imager)
  • SEP (Space Environment Monitoring Instrument Package)
