Following khelekwen's suggestion, here's a picture of my own bookshelves.

Too many books and far, far too many mangas. :P

Well, my to-read books just go on the bookshelf with my already read books and my books that I don't really plan to read and I'm not sure why I bought them. So here are pictures of my three bookshelves. Enjoy.

Well, I just finished reading The Hunchback of Notre Dame. It was extremely good, but the ending was very depressing. I loved all the descriptions of Paris, though. Has anyone else read it?

1. One book that changed your life?

Terri Pratchett & Neil Gaiman's Good Omens. The idea of the apocalypse has never sounded funnier. I think I discovered a new life philosophy with that book. God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players, [ie., everybody.] to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time. Nothing is so bad you can't make something fun out of it. ♥

I should probably also note down the Dragonlance Chronicles, since they were in all likelihood the first book that sent me into proper fangirling sprees.

2. One book you have read more than once?

Jane Yolen's Briar Rose. I loved the parallel of the story of Sleeping Beauty and a WWII concentration camp. I read it compulsively in about two days, but I just couldn't put it down. It's that awesome. I'll probably read it a few more times.

3. One book you would want on a desert island?

Tanith Lee's White As Snow. It's so beautiful and poetic and dark that you'd probably only have the time for a proper read if you were stuck in a deserted island. :) Wouldn't Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys be just the perfect deserted island read as well? ♥

4. One book that made you laugh?

Christopher Moore's A Dirty Job. Because you can't not laugh with a book that includes a character getting Death's power, a baby with guarding hellhounds named Alvin & Mohammed and death by the word 'kitty'.

5. One book that made you cry?

I guess there are a few of them that made me shed a tear or two. But I think the last one that made me properly cry was John Grogan's Marley & Me. I also cried a river with Neil Gaiman's The Sandman. I started at the end of volume eight (or was it seven?), and from then on it was an on-again, off-again water festival.

6. One book you wish had been written?

Has anybody ever read Ellen Kushner's Riverside books? Sworspoint & The Privilege of the Sword? I want to know the story of what happened between those two books. I want to know what happened with Alec's family & his relationship with Richard, why they separated. I don't want a couple of lines that 'seem to explain it all', neither between those books or connecting to the short stories, I want to see it!

7. One book you wish had never had been written?

I don't think there is a book that shouldn't have been written. But if I have to pick one, I guess I'll say the last installments of Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series. What started out as a fun action-horror novel with hints of romance, and it has mutated into badly-written porn erotica with one-dimensional characters. (/woe)

8. One book you are currently reading?

Frank Beddor's Looking Glass Wars. I can't believe I hadn't heard of them before. I must have been hiding under a rock, or something. I have started just today, and I'm loving it. His version of the Mad Hatter is awesome. Plus you can never have enough retellings of classical stories, imo.

9. One book you have been meaning to read?

I have all two volumes of the Genji Monogatari in my room, and I still haven't started on it. I think I bought them two Christmases ago, and I have not opened them yet.

So...I began reading Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series yesterday. I've been trying to avoid it but my curiosity got the better of me and I bought the first part during lunch yesterday, began reading it during afternoon tea break at work in the same day.

1. What is your favourite book to film transition? 

–Neil Gaiman’s Stardust

 Sure there were a lot of things removed and added but I’m proud how it was able to stand on its own.

2. What is your least favourite?
            -Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban.

I love Remus and Sirius. I cannot emphasise enough how disappointed I was. Tina Jay, I still blame you.

3. What book do you think should be made into a film?
            -Neil Gaiman’s American Gods

Something simple and epic :) hah!

But I want Neil to have power over the screenplay. I’d love to say the Sandman library as well though that’s an tall order super-super-super-sized.

4. Are there ANY film versions of things that are better than the book??
            -Well, I think it’s only fair to say that Lauren Weisberger’s The Devil Wears Prada was enjoyable though only because you actually get to see the things, something the book wouldn’t do for you.

5. What film do you wish there was a book of?

-I remember saying The Skeleton Key would end better if it were in a book. That was just a passing thought right after watching the film, though.

1. One book that changed your life?
I think it would have to be The Mystery of the Flooded Museum. Probably because it was the first chapter book I ever read. I can't really remember what it was about now but it made me love reading.


2. One book you have read more than once?
I've read quite a few books more than once but the book I've read the most is Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone.

3. One book you would want on a desert island?
Alice in Wonderland.

4. One book that made you laugh?
The most recent book was The Government Manual for New Wizards.

5. One book that made you cry?
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. By the end of the book I was reduced to a puddle of tears.

6. One book you wish had been written?
I have no idea.

7. One book you wish had never had been written?
Lord of the Flies. I absolutely hated it. It was written very well but I just found it very disturbing.

8. One book you are currently reading?
There are actually a lot of books that I am in the middle of reading but I'll just say The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

9. One book you have been meaning to read?
The Autobiography of Mark Twain. I think it's out of print but I've been meaning to check the library.

1. One book that changed your life?
Anais Nin's Little Birds. The copy I first read was very old, yellowed pages and very fragile; it felt like a came across an old buried treasure. How very right I was. This is a time well before JKRowling. When I found Anais, that was my first moment as a bibliophile.

2. One book you have read more than once?
JKRowling's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. From the series, my favourite book would be Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, however, remember those trivia cards? Back in 2002, I could answer in essay length questions like 'what flavour of ice-cream did Harry have when he and Hagrid went to Diagon Alley?'

3. One book you would want on a desert island?
Perhaps something by Neil Gaiman. Either American Gods or Stardust.

4. One book that made you laugh?
I think I laughed the loudest when I had The Salmon of Doubt by Douglas Adams.

5. One book that made you cry?
I don't remember one.

6. One book you wish had been written?
Perhaps something that would be about taking care of books like explaining what kind of paper would be stored best in what kind of environment.

7. One book you wish had never had been written?
No, sorry. I'm too much of a bibliophile to think that.

8. One book you are currently reading?
Nigel Cawthorne's Sex Lives of Composers. Riot of fun.

9. One book you have been meaning to read?
Sandman book of dreams. I got it ages ago even before I got the library. Now I may start it as I just finished the eleven books. Like I need to be rewarded.
