Pennsic

My pants are completely bankrupt, so if anything has happened in the last 3 weeks that I need to know about, please tell me and give me a link so I can find it.

It was war. It was swell. It was hell. It was hot, it was cold, it was wet--and I think there was a few minutes of dry here and there.

Cindy decided to screw with my head, and let me know *after* I got there for staff week that she wasn't going to need me for much at all with the merchants--her brilliant idea was for me to go work the other side of the street, learn how the other departments work, and someday become Mayor of Pennsic. Damn, I had thought she liked me!! I wonder what I did wrong?

So off to the other side of the street I went--HELP--It is Pennsic and I don't have work!!! I didn't think I was going to survive. Thankfully, my Horde brother, Duke Rurik, was in charge of Public Safety and he was glad to help me out. He made me one of his Valkyries, and put me to work with a radio. Zero night was spent on the battlefield with my brother Em...we had a blast!! We were technically watching for problems and keeping the public safe, but we also spent a lot of time singing old TV songs, talking about old TV shows, and laughing our freezing butts off. It was great--I never get to spend enough time with her.

I did a few shifts at the desk in Public Safety, working the radio and hanging out with my brother Kat. I never get to spend a lot of time with her either. It meant a lot to me to be able to do it. They are both great ladies and a lot of fun.

So here I go, happily doing public safety shifts and spending time at Heralds Point talking to people, meeting with people, solving problems, creating problems, drawing and coloring and all sorts of joyous heraldry stuff when the head of the Cry Heralds gets rushed to the hospital. I got the call to take over as Cry 1. Wow, this is not the Cry Heralds that I worked at before I got sucked into staff. 3 people, crying only the marketplace, crys the same as what is being posted on the board...Boring! I am Cry 1 for Next pennsic too, so the boring is going to change. I have lots of ideas and the support of my superiors :) I have a 3-5 yr plan to bring Cry Heralds back to the point we can cry from the bottom of the lake (blacktop, not beyond) to the North Gate. I am enlisting all my friends to help out. Once people see the cool kids are doing it, they will want to do it too. If I can't get you to volunteer for at least one cry, can I get you all to promise to water/beer/feed and even more importantly, listen and give some respect to the people who are doing it? I promise the crys will be interesting, newsworthy, and worth listening too, as all the info in the cry will not be in the postings, and all the info in the postings will not be in the cry. I *miss* the way we used to hear heralds cry information in the hall and through the camping events. The voices are very much a part of the close your eyes and you feel like you are then experience for me. I am really excited about this opportunity to try to bring back something I have missed. You will all be hearing a lot more about this as the year progresses and I make plans :)

Another cool thing I got to do this pennsic is to go around with Wreath and Pelican and choose what we felt were the top 6 heraldic displays at Pennsic. Ary has the list of names, and they will be in the next LoAR. I think it is important to recognize the work people have done, and encourage others to do the same. We gave the 6 recipients small tokens of our appreciation--a strip of Laurel Trim (thank you trimguy!) with a pewter heraldic crossed trumpet medallion sewn to it. The recipients really seemed to be excited as well. We are hoping to be able to do this in the future at at least the major wars that any one of us attends--we chose 6 as our number because that gives us two each so no one had to choose just one. If there is only one of us at a war, only 2 tokens will be given out, if two of us are there, 4 tokens...(I am babbling, aren't I? I guess I am a bit tired)

As I am starting to lose the ability to form complete thoughts and am wandering down the path of run-on sentences, I shall close now and write more another time.

Oh yeah!! And my daughter came in for the final weekend!! She hasn'[t been at Pennsic since she was 18, and she got to go out drinking with her dad :) They had a blast.

Hope you get some rest somewhere along the line, sounds rather as if you're operating on 'empty'. Bit dangerous really, so hog the bed or sofa and get as many zzzzz's as you can sometime soon.
