Picspam: Long Love Letter (05)
Mar. 29th, 2009 03:10 pmIn which we get the setup for some serious hurt/comfort.

Asami, Takamatsu, and Keiji explore the futuristic bullet train, and discover evidence that people had been living in it.

Back at school, everyone goes about their business, unaware that danger lurks around the corner.

Ootomo is a downer; and Nishi is ready to ditch the school because she's sure that everyone will become savages before too long.

Asami says: "I'm home." Takamatsu and Keiji get emotional.

Asami is a science major, Misaki is a liberal arts major. He talks about planes, and fails to kiss her.

Ootomo gives Nishi a lighter to scare off anyone who threatens her. Beasts, he says, are afraid of fire.

Ando and Norika find the raided storage room, and nearly get raped by the lurking intruders.
(One of the things that bugs me about Long Love Letter is how *stupid* everyone is about conserving food. The raiders--well aware of how scarce food is--are shown stomping on crackers, and guzzling water so quickly that it overflows. You're going to regret those crumbs when you're starving again, a few days from now!)

The raiders and students tussle. Asami gets sliced open while saving Ootomo from the same.

Enjoy this screencap--it is the ONLY time the school takes security seriously. The gates will be wide open again before the end of the episode.

Their food is mostly gone, but the school did get a prisoner.

Asami: "Could you stay like that for a minute? Actuall, a minute and a half?"
*interruption*
Misaki: "Sorry, that was only 30 seconds."

The prisoner has escaped! And he's on the prowl for girls!

Miyuki and Higashi beat the shit out of their would-be rapist.

The "future" vs. "post-nuclear strike Japan" debate continues.

Ootomo wants them to kill the raider. If no one else is willing, he'll do it himself.

Miyuki agrees.

Misaki doesn't. Instead of killing people, let's do something productive, she says. She appoints Miyuki "Minister of Defence."

Misaki discovers a possible food source; Ikegaki is promoted to "Minister of Agriculture."

The raider escapes (through the wide open gate), but Kamo manages to communicate with him before he runs off. He blames the future on them.

That sack of food he's carrying? Is actually Nishi!
I seriously fail to grasp her logic, here. She's worried about being hurt by the kids at school, but thinks that she'll be better off with thieves, attempted rapists and near murderers?

Misaki welcomes Asami home. He replies with a kiss.

Oh, thank god! I 'shipped them a bit when I first watched the show, and wondered if I were a bit crazy for doing so. Validation is mine!
and im so sad for Ootomo when she leaves!
Even though his expressions hardly ever change. *g*

From what I've read, the original LLL was actually a horror manga full of suicide and mutated limbs, so it cracked me up that Yamapi was technically the only one in-character. God forbid they *not* eliminate any threats.

That drove me *crazy.* I know doing the "good" and "right" thing worked out for them in one case, but they got fucked over again and again because they let enemies roam around freely. Good God, how many times did Yamapi-loving-sensei stead food and/or nearly kill people?
Ah, well. I guess it's easy to criticize when you're not lost in a POST APOCALYPTIC WASTELAND yourself.
