bakhshish's Journal

I am just a normal college student majoring in molecular and cellular biology; in short, I have no life. In what little spare time I have, I enjoy reading fanfictions. My ultimate goal in joining this live journal is to enjoy myself and learn a bit more about English as well.

Oh, I often frequent the deleterius community and am a listed beta for Lord of the Rings and the Silmarillion on oc_analysis. Odd combination that... n_n

My homepage is really nothing more than a place for me to mess around. There's also a pic of me there... though it's not too flattering. n_n Feel free to look at the Website: Icons page. It at a wonderful place called Photobucket that allows me to upload my icons and display them within my journal. Keep in mind I am still learning how to make icons (using Photoshop 6.0 and ImageReady). Use them if you wish, just credit me for them. ^.^

Oh, and so I do not have to keep track of each icon and brush combo that I create... here are all the lovely and wonderful brush and texture-makers that I use:

Brushes/Textures:
anesthezea
calixa
carbon_paper
chouchoune (for tiny text brushes... so pretty)
cosmo_mouse
crumblingwalls
detoxcocktails
district_ink (pretty heart and X brushes)
inxsomniax (known for her "insomniac" brush sets)
dearest
oh_pants
honerbright
leftofmyheart
_joni
kimberly_a
meleada
ohpaintbrush (BEST text brushes ever!)
quebelly
aconite (for the side circle brushes! Yay!)
teh_indy
wizzicons
Also: laurad3112 (though I cannot find her LJ page for the life of me now).

Bases/Screencaptures:
I love deviation.net... especially the works of Azhrarn, whom is my idol. Any icons I make out of his beautiful pieces should be credited to him. And major love to the following:

arwen_elvenfair who took (quite literally) THOUSANDS of LOTR bases/screencaptures from all three movies - including the extended editions!
deadbetty is a favorite of mine for her Lost Boys and Queen of the Damned caps. Just gorgeous!
jensen_is_god - one of the best anime base makers I've seen.
merky - loved for those wonderful Hero captures.
kurogane - oh so pretty caps of an amime called Kannazuki no Miko!
missmanics - though small and a bit fuzzy in places, these are some of the best color quality I've seen for screen caps (Hero).
snoopypez - Ginger Snaps captures! ^__^

BIG THANK YOU and much love to indilime (also known as teh_indy :P) for her Harry Potter screen captures. They are the best thing since CHOCOLATE.

If you have happened upon me in need of a beta, then know this: I do beta Sues and I specialize in grammar/punctuation corrections as well as the overall believability of the characters and the plot. Just because English is not my first language does not mean that I lack a fairly firm grasp of it. I will also not be delicate when addressing issues of your story, so please be prepared. Fandoms in which I am currently engaged: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Silmarillion, “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir,” and Law & Order. UPDATE Keep in mind that when college is in session, I will no longer taking any new beta requests. n_n

And because I love this part from Monty Python and the Holy Grail:

King Arthur : Consult the Book of Armaments.
Brother Maynard : Armaments, chapter two, verses nine through twenty-one.
Cleric : [reading] And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, "O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the Lord did grin. And the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths, and carp and anchovies, and orangutans and breakfast cereals, and fruit-bats and large chu...
Brother Maynard : Skip a bit, Brother...
Cleric : And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.
