Have any of you found an anti-aging skin treatment that actually works? I have some retin-A, but it makes my skin peel so bad that I hate using the stuff. Advice?

I have dry skin. As in my legs get kinda scale-y. But I'll be damned if I can find any lotion that helps.
It's gotten worse in the Minnesota winter too. Some of it may be the laundry detergent allergy issue (I'm allergic to most detergents) but this has gone way beyond that. The other day I had to stop myself from scratching my tummy into oblivion and after I was done you could just see all the white dry dead skin which was the ultimate in badness. And last week I scratch my foot into pain (and I go around barefoot or in slippers most of the time, even at school). I scratched the top so bad that I scratched off the top layer of skin and was bleeding.
So. . . .thick commercial lotions don't appear to work. The only things that seem to help are ones that are so thick they can't be put in bottles. So does anyone have recommendations on that score? Something within a grad student budget would be helpful remembering that every bit of my body needs to be slathered. And then. . .exfoliators? Any ideas of good all over ones, or recipes for homemade ones that you know help? I have my Buffy the Backside Slayer from Lush but quite honestly that doesn't exfoliate well enough at all!
I wanna go back to the deserts where I didn't have these problems *whines*

Speaking of pores: that one company.. the "Swiss" one.. that I can't remember right now (I could go look, but I'm too lazy) makes a facial scrub for the shower that has done wonders for my complexion. Supposedly it works with the heat of your shower, but whatever. It's amazing anyway. :D

Hi! I'm Kelly, I'm new (and forgive me if I ask commonly-asked questions due to being new). This community looks awesome and I'm really happy to have the resource. I'm having a real problem finding good skin care advice and I've tried a few things. For about a year I used MAC cleanser and moisture feed and I'm not happy with it; it simply isn't improving my skin at all. I don't like Clinique and haven't had luck with it. I tried Burt's Bees day cream with little luck. Can anyone recommend a good line? I love MAC for pigments but their skin care seems to be lacking.
MY SKIN:
Blackhead problem
big pores
Combination skin (dry and some breakouts in T zone mainly)
I am a little sensitive in that I see splotches if my skin is irritated at all. Thank you so much!

Yesterday I went shopping and bought two skin products.
1. Biore Pore Perfect "Triple Action Astringent" (cleanses, tightens, and cleans)
2. Clearasil "Vanishing Maximum Strength Acne Treatment Cream"
INCREDIBLE. I dont know if it were the individual products working together or just one of them but whatever. When I woke up this morning my skin felt GREAT. The pimples I had were almost gone and my skin felt really good. I dunno. I mean I dont get to much acne. Im one of those people that either have none at all and then suddenly get 3-4 at once. But like really, I highly recommend this stuff.
