Work/Job Interview Advice?
Jun. 3rd, 2015 10:36 amI have a panel interview tomorrow for a new job. It would give me more money and somewhat more responsibility, give me a title that doesn't have "assistant" somewhere in it, is back with my old department, and 75% of it is exactly what I'm doing now/what I was doing in that old department, with 25% new stuff/responsibilities. I would not be taking over the old admin role in my old department, as that is still held by an entirely competent person; this would be a bunch of the stuff I liked about my old job (that they split into two jobs after I left), minus some of the stuff I didn't. I am interviewing with the direct reports to the person I'd be reporting to (SA), who I used to report to, and who all know me relatively well. So, any suggestions for how best to handle this? I know I need to be professional, dress more formally than usual, and expect to be well-questioned. This job is probably mine to lose, and I don't want to lose it.
Except... maybe I do. Because I've just heard something suggesting that SA may be moving on to a new role in the company but may not even know it herself yet, and I'm not sure I want to drop into the mess that's sure to be left behind as a result. But nothing's confirmed yet, and I definitely don't have all the details, so I don't want to assume anything. Argh.
I do like my current boss, SF, quite a lot, I'm being kept quite busy and challenged enough in my current position, and I'm being paid well enough that I could be content and relatively unstressed for some time to come.
SA and SF both report to KA, who I supported as an executive assistant up until the beginning of April. At which point he smoothly passed me off to support SF and one other of his direct reports and inserted an EA who was his first choice last year for his EA before she went off to the corporate offices to work for one of the CEO's people... before moving back here this winter for family reasons. So I'm not entirely surprised he's trying to move SA into another organization without telling her, as they've never really clicked as he and I never really clicked, he just couldn't fire her because she's too good at her job. But now, I think he sees an opportunity to get rid of her so he won't have to deal with her on a regular basis anymore and break up her power structure in the process. Ugh.
I don't even know.
