I was thinking today that, well, there are other people who have Real Person fic, so why can't we have our own. I mean the Creation Station crew, written by us and about us. I personally find the idea of ficcing myself kind of creepy (or well reading fic about myself) but I figure it could be fun. We can come up with our own crackilous OTPs.
Since none of us use our real names, or most of us don't, we can have a blast with it. Even create charactures out of ourselves.
So is anyone else interested in ficcing the CS?

So I'm browsing through Fandom!Secrets and the comments, and I see something about a fanfiction secret, specifically this person claiming that all fanfiction is illegal.
... lol wut?
Anyway, I decided that some things needed to be um... clarified, for the sake of my own sanity and possibly the sanity of others. I don't know if I'm 100% correct - it has been almost six years since I did my paper on fanfiction and popular culture, which did include a section about copyright, so my comment was from memory. But, I figured I should share this with my Creation Station people. :3
The original secret, I THINK (because person below didn't put the secret number up) was something about being upset by authors who request that fanfiction not be written by people of their works. Now that I understand, its THIS that I don't...
Their comment:
"Sorry but, the one where the person's fandom depended on the creator/author endorcing (<-lawl misspelled) fanfiction wins as biggest fail ever.
Y HALLO THAR Copywrite infringement. Authors/Creators CANNOT legally endorse fanfiction as it sets them up for huge legal battles. If they do not edorse (<-again) fanfiction, they are covering their asses from any little idiot going "THAT AUTHOR STOLE MY STORIES I NEED BAZILLIONS OF DOLLARS SUE SUE SUE!" Fanfiction is technically illegal. Just cause it's not legally enforced still doesn't make it legally OK."
My response:
"Fanfiction is only illegal if it is published and earns money directly to the writer and not the original creator of the copyrighted characters without their express consent. Fanfiction posted on the internet, with the use of a disclaimer stating that they are doing it for entertainment purposes only and not for profit negates any legality. The only time it becomes an issue is if the creator makes a personal decision that they no longer wish for a site, usually one of the bigger ones like FF.N, should be allowed to host fan works based on their own pieces. This is a rare case, and usually does not end in suing, only a simple cease and desist. However that doesn't mean that the stories cannot be posted elsewhere, like on a personal site, and that usually winds up becoming the norm after something of that nature has happened.
Plagiarism, which is what you're going on about there in the 'author stole my stories', however, is completely illegal as it is taking some one's work and copying it word for word, however it can also be negated by ownership issues. If some person comes along and claims, at random, that the people who wrote, say, Avatar the Last Air Bender actually stole his idea, he would have to show proof that his idea was created/published before any production was started on the show.
From time to time creators/owners of a work (like Stargate SG-1 for example) will give the green light to a publishing company, though, and allow additional stories to be written within the canon of a series. A lot of people consider these 'approved fan works', as often times it really is just some writer who expressed enough interest in writing fiction with pre-established characters that got the job.
Thusly, Fanfiction is not 'technically' illegal. There's just a lot going on behind the scenes of the 12 year old fan brat writing themselves in to a Naruto story."
Well, I think I was civil enough while be informative? What do you guys think? Discuss discuss!

The con season is over. NaNoWriMo is over. It's getting into the boring, dark winter months where there's nothing left to do but catch up on your television (or anime) watching. While that has its own merits, it's kind of unproductive, so I'd like to purpose a rousing game of Story, Story, Die!
I know you're probably saying, "Wait, we're online how can we possible have a game of SSD!" but I've actually thought about that. It requires a bit of truthiness on the part of the participants, but we all know each other so cheating or fudging on this is just like lying to your grandmother, we might not know, but would you really feel good
about doing it?
The concept is simple, just like the game, and really only is going to require a compiter with an internet connection (one that you can get to at least once a day), a timer (iphone, kitchen timer, stop watch, whatever) and the desire to compete. One person will start with a fifteen minute timer, write like mad for the whole of the fifteen minutes. When the time is up you stop (finishing the sentence you wrote) and send it off to the list. The next person get it, has their fifteen minutes of writing time, and sends it off. This goes on and on until someone falters. If you can't think of anything to write, just post "I die like a…" and write the manner in which you choose
your death. It means your out of the game, but you can still read what everyone else is writing, so it's not that big of a loss.
The "winner" gets to read the story at bedtime stories at whichever convention seem is first (Chibi-chibi I think.) Also, think of this like the Ultimate Showdown, you can put any fandom in you want! Do anything that you want! It doesn't really need to
make sense either, just be there.
This isn't really going to start until January first so we can get a participant list set up and posted to the group. Maybe give us a chance to get it posted somewhere. It also gives people a chance for Christmas to get behind them.
So, whose game?
(more rules will come later when we've figured out whose joining in.)

Yes, tomorrow is the end of the month. Did anyone take a dare? Who made 50k? And of course time for the final word count. So...
post your widgets and word counts (you have until midnight tomorrow.) Let's see how we did!

(sorry for those who got this as a double post)
Next Friday is the final day of November, we're heading the corner into the final sprint. So how are you doing? Do you like where you are? Is 50,000 words enough for the story? Are you going to need more?
How are you liking the process? Is it too much pressure? Have you decided to toss the whole thing away? Did RL get in the way? Are you planning on using the long weekend to catch up, maybe even pull ahead?
And, because the forums are my new favorite place on the web, I'll pull one of my favorite games. Leave a dare! Can't think of one? Well, go back to the leftover SFAH promps and grab one from there. Not NaNoing, you can still leave one. You can still take one. Only take something that you might actually use. It's a great way to get past that point that you're stuck at.

Thursday is the halfway point. Where are you now? What are you writing? Are you in love with you work or is it just something that you're working on? Do you think you're going to finish? Do you need some help? Want someone to Word War with? Do you want an on-line creation station write in (if we could figure out how to do that!)? And what are you doing reading this instead of writing!? :)
Do you think as a group we can break 100,000 words (that's two people finishing) or maybe 200,000 words?
If you're busy, just post a quick word count, we can start a tally for the creation station crew and see where we're standing. If you're not, we can use this post as a way to help you along.
And remember, even if you're not NaNoing you can help goad your friends into finishing. :)
Current Cumlative Word Count: 59226
And now: Creation Station on the NaNo Forums!

It's November 1st which means it the beginning of National Novel Writing Month. So are you writing this year? Did you not know it was starting? Were you inspired to join from the NaNoWriMo panels?
This is just trying to get thing going on the group again. Remember you can post fics here and not just discuss Creation Station stuff.
