- Steve, to say that RUSUKR is an area with dug-in partisans is hardly a controversial statement - it's the entire reason why it is a CTOP - nor is it "insinuating" anything to say so.
- I recommend opening an ANI discussion because I cannot for the life of me work out what it is you are actually asking for at this point. I gave you the statement you appeared to be asking for - that you did actually allow edits for punctuation grammer and spelling - but that was not enough. Perhaps you will get whatever it is there? Arbitration
- The arbitration case SchroCat has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 15 April.
- Per a recent motion, appeals of blocks from the conflict-of-interest VRT queue are, by default, appealed on-wiki through the normal unblock process. However, they may be heard by the Committee if COIVRTers disagree on the interpretation of the evidence or believe ArbCom would be better suited to hear the appeal. Administrators are also advised that loosening or lifting such blocks without the consent of someone with access to the queue or ArbCom can be grounds for desysopping.
- Per a recent motion, restrictions issued directly by the Committee may now be enforced with blocks which work exactly like contentious topic blocks.
- The arbitration case Maghreb has been closed.
Miscellaneous
- The May 2026 administrator elections are scheduled to run from April 29 to May 19. The call for candidates ends May 5.

I'm an inclusionist but it does seem that Wikipedia could survive without a page on each rural house in Iran, Russia and elsewhere. I can list Russian cases if it's helpful. Delinking deleted items
[edit]Hi FORAP -
I noticed that when you closed a string of adabi AfDs a few weeks ago, you just delinked them from some of the lists instead of deleting entirely (example). I've come across a few other admins with the same issue, it seems to either be a problem with XFDCloser not recognizing certain types of list entries of a matter of clicking the "remove" instead of "unlink" button. As a non-admin I can't offer much more insight than that, but hopefully there's an easy solution. I did fix all of the ones that I found. Thanks! –dlthewave ☎ 20:08, 20 June 2026 (UTC)
I have effing had it
[edit]I am sick to death of arguing about the damnable guidelines. Necrothesp's bald-faced denial of the problem is pretty much the nail in the coffin of me bothering to interact with them. It's just eating up my time and really making me want to give up on the whole effort. So GEOLAND is about to go off my watchlist. Sorry to abandon you but it's too much of a time sink producing nothing but frustration.

- I know. This present round of this discussion has now been ongoing since October last year. Frankly I dip in and out of the discussion to avoid becoming frustrated by it, and don't watchlist any talk page for the same reason.
- But I think people are aware that the present situation just isn't tolerable. There's zero pushback for eliminating CS46's nonsensical "village" articles, for example.
- I know once the RFC goes live some people are going to, "more in sorrow than in anger", find that they just can't support it because of some wording issues or whatever, even though they would really like to be able to, honest. But the fact that they had to at least seem like they were going along with things does at least mean we shouldn't get too many
"'Bad RFC - no BEFORERFC was done"
votes or attempts to derail the whole thing by putting a moratorium on even discussing the issue at all. - Yes, stating that the guideline hasn't led to the creation of thousands of pointless articles is just deluded, but they are not the audience we need to convince anyway. - 1) How many of Carlossuarez46’s articles have been deleted. I know the number is somewhere around 15-20k but it would be great to know for sure.
- 2) How many articles are cited to GNS only.

- I would add to this also articles sourced indirectly to GNS indirectly through some other source that gets its data from there.

- ...and now we have the "post offices imply there's a town" argument again, because people weigh in without any experience with the stuff. That's the biggest issue: when we started out, it seemed these national listings had to be reliable, and now that we've learned all the reasons why they have greater or lesser inaccuracies, getting people to acknowledge that those of us who've been dealing with them have learned a great deal that outsiders do not yet know is an endless process. A lot of the proof simply is in the process: we've put up probably a few thousand GNIS-based articles so far, and the deletion rate on these is quite high, and probably a lot of the redirect outcomes wouldn't survive a challenge at RfD. We had to resort to extreme measures to deal with Kotbot and the abadis because they were beyond what individual review processes could handle. By contrast deletion discussions of historic places are relatively rare, and are usually parish churches or embassies without anything to back up their noteworthiness. This strongly suggests that the historic listing guideline is OK and that the town/settlement guideline is not. Mangoe (talk) 18:01, 29 June 2026 (UTC)

SYNTH in airline lists

I’ve been basing some of my source removals on destination lists on a discussion you were involved in back in March at RSN - Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 501#FlightRadar24 - use for referencing the existence of airline routes - specifically when it comes to SYNTH sources. However having hunted down the discussion, after pinging a couple of other editors to try and figure out where the discussion went, I get the feeling I may be incorrect with what I’m thinking.
