Does Vibration Training Work?

I'm glad to find this group! I am wondering if anyone has tried vibration traning? I actually have not tried it - can't find anyone or a gym with a machine - but I find the idea fascinating. People say you can build muscle - not bulky muscle but more toned muscles - by using your body's natural tendency to try to stabilize itself in the face of vibration. The research I did suggested that vibration training might also help with bone density and joint pain, and that it was particularly effective around the core.

Anyway, I'm hoping this spring to go check this out for myself, but I am really curious if anyone here at Live Journal has done vibration training - does it work, and what are the positives and negatives. If this particular form of exercise is not effective or otherwise not favorable, I would love to know, though maybe it's just little known.

Thanks!

Alan

Is high rep working for any or you in terms of weight loss? (Weight loss is my priority, I am not so concerned about mass or strength.)

Hi gymrats, like a lot of people, my New Year's resolution is to lose some weight and get in shape. I'm kind of ashamed to admit that I'm 5'6" and 182 lbs. I'd like to get down to 150 and then see where to go from there. I've read the community info but I still have a lot of questions.

What cardio machines burn the most calories, and how much cardio do I need to do to lose weight? Should I try to lose some weight first and then start lifting, or can I start lifting now? I've had some people tell me that if I start lifting now it'll make me look even fatter, which I obviously don't want. And how much weight can I lift without bulking up? I know a lot of people say that women don't bulk up, but I've seen women who are really muscular and bulky and that's not a look I want. There's some famous trainer named Tracy something who trained Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow, and she says no woman should ever lift more than 3 lbs. Is that true? She seems like a really good trainer so I feel like I should trust what she says.

Also I'm really confused about diet and things like "eating clean"? I don't really understand what that means. Does that really matter or do I just need to count calories? How many calories do I need to eat?

Thanks, and please don't be too mean.

I'm sure you're all very proud of yourselves for making fun of the fat chick. Get a life.

Easy Curves for dudes?

Ok, so i was sitting around bored to death of infomercials when one came on for a "breast enhancing tool" known as the Easy Curves.
Basically, its this rod with built in resistance that is supposed to firm, strengthen and tone the underlying muscles of a womans breasts to ultimately lift and firm them. So this got me to thinking... Could a male use this and get similar results? in theory it seems plausible, and im sure there are thousands, if not more, exercises that would work 100x's better than this for a guy but i am just curious as to whether or not it would tone and/or increase a guys chest size.

some workout questions

Dec. 2nd, 2009 | 05:53 am

So I have a few questions about my workout routine and exercise pain and all that...

1. I seem to have very weak lower back muscles. Whenever I do crunches or pilates, or even push ups/planks, my lower back gets more sore afterwards than do my abs or my arms. So, what are some good lower back muscle strengthening exercises I could do to help this? When I do ab work, I curl up slowly and back down slowly, and when I do crunches I do keep my stomach in and back straight.

2. I've been holding up a routine (I'll describe it below) and I'm building muscles in my legs (and arms, which I've never had any in my life), especially the areas right above my knee, BUT they are still pretty thick. Should I just keep up with my cardio and eventually maybe they'll become slimmer?

3. Also, what are some easy posture exercises or stretches other than the exercises I already do? I'll admit I have horrible, horrible posture (I slouch, my shoulders naturally slouch forward and pushing them back feels awkward, etc), so I would like to fix it gradually.

4. I also would like to lose a few pounds. Nothing drastic, but maybe just 5-10.

5. Also, does anyone workout in the evenings? It's not ideal, but I'm pretty busy these days that it's hard to work out at any time. Mornings I usually don't have time. Then I'm at work until 5.

So, here's my workout routine:

Whey Protein

Nov. 6th, 2009 | 11:15 am

Hi,

I  have been a long time lurker in this community and I've finally decided to come out and ask a question. I have been a runner since January, but I still have a lot of fat on my body. My legs have become more toned, but other than that, my weight has remained the same. I've been trying to lose weight with running and get into shape but so far, it hasn't shown any results. Note: I'm not anorexic, I'm pretty much just looking to have a healthy body weight and more toned body. I recently got into Whey Protein. I've been doing some research and some people say don't use for weight reductions and others say sure, go for it. I've been trying to use it in combination with my running to lose the fat on my body and build lean muscle. Is this a good idea?

My diet so far as been a shake for breakfast, a big lunch lunch and then a shake for dinner again. I eat fruit when I get hungry between meals. Is this the right way to go? I'd really appreciate your input.

So, I'm new. I read the community info. I checked out the links.

So, I have a few questions, and feel free to shoot other links at me.

To start, I don't give a damn about weight or calories as long as the ends justify the means, if that makes sense. I eat meals based on hunger and nutritional requirements for maximum functionality. I'm recovering from a good number of nasty eating disorders, so I'd really rather not bother with how much I weigh. Is that a bad idea if I'm trying to bulk up, and kind of tone? I don't do a lot of cardio, mostly for the same reason as above. It's very light (less than 30 minutes on days when I work out), and mostly based around resistance. I'm an ex-sprinter, so I run suicides sometimes, but I mostly lift weights and do other strengthening exercises.

The main problem as far as I can tell is this: I have no clue what I'm doing. I will be the FIRST to tell you that, and I know that just because I see results does NOT mean I'm doing anything right. In fact, it's not even certain if I'm doing everything safely. I'm still green when it comes to what to do for what muscle, how to isolate muscle groups, and how to safely improve definition and bulk. Actually within just a few weeks of practicing a new routine (I say 'new' because I hadn't been working out at all beforehand), the muscle between my collar and my shoulder-blades has gone absolutely mad with power. I don't mind it, but part of my aim had been my triceps, and I would really just love a little diagram or something that explains what exercises will work for which muscle(s). Also, I only have free weights, so I've had to improvise with some stuff... like bench dips on lazyboys.

I don't want to restrict calories, etc., but I would really love some help learning how to put on some good bulk and definition.

Thanks for your time.

The  Issue

I have been bothered by how to schedule my new regimen out and just what type of routine i would work into it. Cant be too long and it cant push me to fatigue with my school and all.

My initial weekday plan would require me to be on time to the second and well.. it is hard for me to be within the half hour sometimes, ex-nay plan 1.

( Solution?Collapse )
