1. Name or user name: Susan
2. What "major" Holiday do you celebrate?: We celebrate Christmas. We'll also be doing stuff from Halloween and Thanksgiving.
3. What do you hope change this Season?: This year, we're changing houses. We've been working on a renovation, and this fall we'll have enough done to go ahead and make the move. It could be September, October, or November. We're not on a schedule and it mostly depends on how much time and money my husband puts into it at any given time. So that leaves things pretty much up in the air for me on what to deep clean and stuff, but that's going to be our big change.
The other thing, that I have more control over, is budget. I often stress over money at Christmas time and having enough. We don't charge anything, which is
great, but it leaves me a bit hampered at the checkout. At the beginning of this year, I started putting away a $20 bill every week. By the time I started shopping I had $600 to spend, and projecting through to Christmas, $20 a week all year gives me a budget of about $1000. So I know what I have to spend overall and can divvy it up for each person, and I actually have it! That takes soooo much stress off of me. (We're 18 weeks out now, so if you started with $20 a week now, you'd have $360 by Christmas. Nothing to sneeze at.)
4. What is your favorite Holiday tradition?: I'm tempted to go back and see what I said last year. What comes to mind right now is Christmas Eve at my parents' house. It's sort of a day off for me because my mom cooks a big meal and I don't have to do anything (I usually don't go empty-handed, don't worry, but I don't have to). It's just our immediate family, my parents, and hopefully my brother. We exchange our family gifts that night too, in my mom's super-decorated house.
5. What is your favorite thing about the Holiday Season?:I guess I'm just a big commericalist pig. I love the gift giving part. The farther out for Christmas we are, the more excited I get about getting gifts for other people. I love everything I bring home and put away. When it gets down to the wire and it starts to be about get
something for this person, I don't like it so much. (Right now my Christmas shopping is in full swing and going great!)
6. What is your favorite holiday movie or TV special?: We watch Christmas movies all year here-- my daughter loves them. Polar Express is a new favorite for me. I also love "It's a Wonderful Life" and the Lifetime-type romantic movies that I never get to see-- you know what I'm talking about. This year I intend to get the Charlie Brown Christmas movies for my daughter who really seems to have taken to Charlie Brown.
7. What is your favorite Holiday recipe?: (Please Cut) ( Glazed Mint BrowniesCollapse )Ok, that's me. Posting or re-posting your Intro is certainly not mandatory. I just like to read them.
