I know this question has been prodded to death, but a dull shift at work compelled me to write an essay on why Light doesn't have antisocial personality disorder (sociopathy). Among his many monikers, 'sociopath' is probably the one that fans use the most, but going through the criteria and evaluation the situational circumstances, I don't feel that this diagnosis applies.

Hi, I'm new here and I totally support Kira and Light ;), as I think he's one of the most original characters I've ever read for his terrifying intelligence mixed to his angelic appearance and beauty, his originary good intentions and his mastodontic plan, for his contradictions and his sorrow... he's totally super-human, logically and psychologically, and this is only a summary to make clear that in my opinion he' s superior to L and many others (even if I love them all, expecially L for his behaviour and intelligence =) ).

I'm curious about everyone's opinions concerning Light and religion (or at least, shall we say, spiritual beliefs).

Note: Though I think Death Note is really interesting to analyze in terms of how humans their beliefs are portrayed, we will have to grant that in their universe, Gods of Death exist. Whether or not these Shinigami are in fact, "Gods" by nature or if that's just the convenient title that the humans bestow upon these supernatural beings might be beside the point, or might not, but I'll hold off on them for the moment.

I see lots of fans immediately call Light an atheist, generally with the argument that there's no way he could believe in God while simultaneously proclaiming himself to be one. I'll say now that this reasoning is a little flawed, because Light is Japanese. In the West, I think a lot of us immediately think of Judeo-Christian/Abramahic religions, and though such things exist in Japan, Light has a very low chance of being involved with them. Light's family would probably be more involved with Buddhism or Shinto, more than likely both because from statistics I've seen, most Japanese people consider themselves believers of the pair of them.
