| Of homegrown moths... (I rapidly seem to become a bug lady) |

So today's photos are of the latest homegrown moth :)
Last weekend, Bert found a coccoon in one of his work boots, which he gave to me.
Of course I put it away safely in the hatching tank.
Especially considering the coccoon was moving in my hand already.
So every day I checked the tank (which is always high on a shelf to make sure killer cat, aka Loa, can't get at it) and this afternoon I found an angle shades peacefully resting in the corner.
So when Bert got home, it was releasing time (because sooner or later Loa would realise that it was in the house and no one would ever sleep or rest again 'till we released it).
Much like Houdini, our previous home hatched angle shades, this one was super tame too, but far less reluctant to go outside (this one seemed super happy to go nest nice and snug in the ivy).

Yesterday we found a caterpillar of a yellow underwing on the kale we got at the organic supermarket. Because it tried to climb the walls of the jar I'm keeping it in (without a lid obviously) I decided to call it Houdini.
It was raining so I haven't moved it to one of our green boxes in the garden (where there is ground, food and shelter, so everything it needs to succesfully become a moth) yet, but I plan on doing it tonight together with Bert at dusk :)
There's also a video of him walking around on my hand, but as flickr is being a twat when it comes to coding for videos (they'll make it work for tumblr, but not blogs, typical; I'll have to link you to it. *Click*. |
