So, let me get this straight -  


Conservative religious whackjobs boycotting JCPenney and Disneyland, and pulling official strings to try to prevent Islamic community centers from being built is the work of responsible citizens protecting the Constitution and the American Way…



But boycotting Chick Fil-A and denying them building permits is an  ATTACK ON FREE SPEECH AND RELIGIOUS FREEDOM ZOMG FIRST AMENDMENT FIRST AMENDMENT FIRST AMENDMENT?

Side-eyeing and judging the people who ate there today SO hard right now.

No Snarky Title  
So in case y'all didn't hear - Islam is on trial today in the U.S. House of Representatives. Because Repubs are SO CONCERNED about jobs and the deficit that they put a whole fucking religion on trial over concerns about extremism, as if that issue doesn't exist ANYWHERE else.

Here's an idea - let's do this right. Have hearings about extremism in all its' forms. We'll start with the "Christians" who shoot abortion doctors and threaten family planning clinics across the country, racists who patrol the borders looking for Mexicans to harass, homophobes who torment gay kids into committing suicide and protest at funerals with god-hates-America signs, and anti-government militias stockpiling weapons all over the damn place.

...no? Then wtf are we trying to accomplish here?

Of all the things to be pissed off at about this image from Rush Limbaugh's website, the one that annoys me most isn't what you'd expect.  Yes, it's racist and douchey - that's nothing new, douchey is Rush's default m.o. 

The thing that gets me is the bad photoshopping.  I mean, if you're going to do a satirical graphic, do it right.  Work with the layer modes or something, man!  Make it look like it's actually painted on Mt. Rushmore, instead of just MY GRAFFITI IZ PASTEDE ON YAY!

Second-Amendment Remedies?  
So, I just got home from an extra-long day at work today where Mr. Murphy decided to continually kick my ass from the moment I opened the clinic up all the way until dinner this evening.  If this weren't the case, I'd have been talking about this from the moment I got word of it.  As things stand right now, I'm too exhausted to feel anything but sad.

I just...first John McCain, then SB-1070, now THIS?  Can this state PLEASE be famous for something other than Epic Fail for once?  PLEASE?

This Holiday Makes No Fucking Sense  
In honor of the day, a really interesting poem about Columbus and the effects his discovery had on the Americas.  (Right-click, save as.  It's an FLV file offered for free from the poet's website and will play with VLC Media Player.)

My thing is this - even if you can find it in you to set aside the atrocities that were committed, he didn't discover America.  He didn't even discover the Caribbean. Lief Ericson didn't discover North America.  There were already people here when these men landed on our shores, their ancestors discovered the Americas when they crossed over the Bering Strait.

What Columbus did do was carry out mass genocide and set the stage for the slave trade in these continents.  Something to acknowledge, not celebrate.

It's true that the Americas would be very different without people like Columbus, but let's not forget just what it's meant for the indigenous peoples of these continents.  They deserve this day far more than he does.

    • When posting links, consider using hxxp instead of http or taking out the http://www part altogether and only posting part of the url.  This ensures that people have to copy/paste the address in a new tab and bypass the tracking.  Just sayin'.

Yes, public entries are public entries.  People happening to stumble upon my public lj entries is one thing - that's ok, but linking to my LJ on FB/Twitter is totally different.  I KEEP LJ AND FB SEPARATE FOR A REASON. 

Besides - there may not be any public entries for much longer, depending on how this mess falls out. -_-;;

Ah, TX.  Back to failing again, I see...  
Was going to post Merlin squee, but then I saw this & it got harshed BIG TIME:

Not to mention, in the 60's and before, the GOP wasn't the party it is today.  Liberal Republicans spearheaded the Voting Rights Act (though it notably took a Democrat bringing the issue up in the first place), others went along with it due to political pressure.  Note that I said LIBERAL Republicans.  Wonder what happened to those??

Oh, right.  Y'ALL RAN THEM OUT OF THE PARTY AND THEY JOINED THE DEMOCRATS.  Just like how all the racist douchenozzle Dixiecrats and their ilk generally headed over to the GOP later on.  FANCY THAT.

Moment Of Pop-Culture Shallow  
Missed the VMA's, didn't really care until I heard about The Incident last night.  Not a big Taylor Swift fan (only had a vague awareness of her before this) and I really don't think Beyonce's Single Ladies vid is one of the greatest of all time, but DAMN.

Also - I know Glambert was jizzing his pants over Lady Gaga last night, but frankly?  After seeing it on YouTube, I'm kind of 'meh.'  ^^;; 

Kinda how I feel about her in general, really - I love a few of her songs like burning, but don't get too hyped on the artist herself.  It's not that she's too weird, it's just that I feel no need to.  Everyone else in the world is doing plenty of swooning to make up for my lack. lol

I love how Republicans scream and throw hissy fits about Socialized Medicine and Government Healthcare, but none of them have the stones to put their money where their mouth is and axe Medicare/VA benefits. 

In Other News...

Mom and I had lunch with my Aunt Darla & Uncle Wayne, along with my cousin Katie, whom I haven't seen since she was like, 4?  ^^;;  She's gonna be in 5th grade soon, and she was in utero when I moved to Arizona. O_O;; *feels old*  They were heading back to Texas after vacationing in Cali, and wanted to see us on the way.  Since it's been, y'know, years. ^^;;

    In the course of lunch, I learned:
  • Even though I have no clue what I'm saying half the time anymore, apparently my Spanish is still perfect.  (I've always been awesome at pronounciation, not so much at the REMEMBERING WHAT IT MEANS. ^^;;)

  • Uncle Wayne is being deployed again to Iraq or Afghanistan.  For the third time. -_-;;  He's done tours of duty in BOTH countries, and yeah. Not sure yet which area he's going to this time, but he's hoping Iraq.  His post would be a bit calmer there, at least.  YAY FOR OVER-STRETCHED MILITARY OMG! \o/!!

  • My cousin Delton has bulked up a LOT this past 5-10 years, holy CRAP.  I remember when he was this skinny little kid, now he's like the Hulk or something.  Jeebus. O_O;;


...is it the weekend yet?  Bleargh. >.<;;  Pardon me while I go huddle with ONTDP & Glambert fic.

UGH!  
Yes, I'm awake at 4am.  Don't ask.

I am on the verge of writing AMD a very long, profane, hate-filled and vitriol-spewing Feedback Letter.

First, I download what my comp tells me is a "necessary" update.  Fine, whatever.  I have Windows set to only alert me for the priority updates, so I figure it's important.

Next thing you know, I restart my comp, and this error message pops up.

Now, I try doing a system restore to undo the latest update, but noooo...I still get it.  XP  I'm looking at the driver update page, and of course, I have no friggin' CLUE what .zip package I'm suppsed to download, or even if I'm looking at the right page. XP
