"hey hey little razor blade girl you're so so dangerous"
Long day. It's not even close to over yet, either. WOO ENGLISH MAJORS. T_____T
Woke up in time to get some breakfast again-- twice this week, aren't you proud?-- then off to Fiction where Dr. Berman talked about Madam Bovary and I had no idea what he was talking about because, oh yeah, I haven't read it yet. It's also very frustrating trying to read along with him when the fucking BOOKSTORE gave me the wrong fucking VERSION of it. *huff* I'm never buying books from the bookstore again, those fuckers. Anyway, it had been too cold to bike to class this morning (34 fucking degrees? Where the fuck am I, the North?!) so I walked to the Union and lo and behold, finally my package has arrived. Except I've got to stand in line reading Tiger Weekly because there's only one woman working at the time.
Now, I don't blame the ladies that work in there; they are very nice, patient and efficient. I blame the fact that I'm sure they can't actually afford to have another person working in there so that one woman isn't trying to deal with a line of fifteen people stretching into the P.O. box rooms. So that takes forever, and I barely have enough time to get back to my dorm, change books and run off to French. Again, French is still pretty cool, except for Marcus messing with me and me totally not being in the mood for it. And as much as I wanted to tell him I was PMSing and he should fuck off with poking me before I didn't get that finger back, I didn't want to blame my irritability on that so I just rolled my eyes and went back to what I was doing. I think I got full marks on my quiz today, too, so that's something.
Theatre was a stimulating as ever. [/sarcasm] I've taken to writing down/illustrating pages in my little diary/notebook thing or completing the Revielle's sudoku puzzles while I answer questions to King Lear because I have my annotated version with me now and I feel so smart. And Friday is supposed to be a presentation, so I'm excited about that, hopefully we won't go over more stuff. What she says is interesting, but it's easy to tune out because she kinda gets repetitive and wanders around with her trains of thought.
Went BACK to the Co-Op with Lauren to get my damn Last Of The Mohicans book, fuck you James Fenimore Cooper, fuck you in your grave. Then I did laundry. But Darienne, you'll say, didn't you just do laundry? Why yes, friend, yes I did. I shall explain why. If you're not interested in hearing my opinions about a woman's time of the month in respect to myself, then skip the next paragraph and go on your merry way.
I don't mind my period. I don't get cramps, it doesn't last for days on ened, I don't spot that often. I have some general tiredness and soreness, but I hardly even get bloated, so I can't complain too much. However, I have two main complaints. 1) I'm irregular as hell. The antithesis to clockwork scheduled women (and birth control? not so much). So after 28 days I'm walking around paranoid with a tampon or pad in my back pocket, which leads me to complaint number two. 2) I ruin too many goddamn clothes. Because of 1 and the traits (or lack thereof, in the case of cramps) above, I'm so unused to it coming around that 2 happens every god damn time. So that laundry I did? Was because I hugely stained my new favorite pair of jeans AND the pair of pants I just happened to be sitting on. I'm actually thankful for that pair of pants becuase it kept my comforter clean and that would've been hell to clean up at fucking half past midnight. (Okay. Rant over, that was basically it).
Took like a two second nap before Steph got back from class, went with her to Walmart (after she went tanning for 10 minutes) to get a case of water and then a gallon jug too, because we weren't sure what would fit in our fridge but it fit, so hooray for that. Her mom's going to buy us our main list of groceries this weekend, so that's also awesome. Oh, talked to mom to confirm package delivery and thank her for a check I sorely need now because that Co-Op visit took a massive chunk of change (but I also got Dad's b-day present, so that's something I can check off my To-Do list). Then Steph was gonna go to dinner with her dad and invited me along.
Dude.
Applebee's has this 'Cowboy Burger.' And it is freaking AMAZING. I am usually quite the wimp and don't like to try stuff that doesn't already sound like something I'd like, which is why I end up getting a chicken caesar salad or a traditional hamburger at places where I really ought to try new things, but today I went out on a limb because the Kaziks were ready to order and I wasn't, but I just threw something out there and BOY WAS IT GOOD. Cheddar and Pepper Jack cheese, bacon, barbeque sauce (and I don't even LIKE the sweet kind usually) and an onion ring stack. I proceeded to dress it with a little lettuce and pickle and eat the onion ring separate (along with fries of course) and wash it down with lemonade. Fucking delish. And Mr. Kazik picked it up, so it was free. Great dinner, and now I've got assloads of reading to do for tomorrow and another quiz in French (this is never going to stop happening...) so I'm trying to pull myself away from Teh Internets and it's siren song, as
cherryfeather so eloquently puts it. I generally say I need to just fucking stop with the procrastination and O'Halloran needs to quit being so enticing and shit. (You see why I chose Liz's turn of phrase rather than my own.)
My room (or my half of it, at least) looks like a disaster area. I really need to get on this shit. I'll have to do it tomorrow or Friday. Apparently I'm not going out this weekend either because I've got another paper due Tuesday (this time for Brit Lit) and plenty of reading to actually catch up on. In random news, Kiah and I are chatting it up on Facebook now and that makes me happy because we kinda hadn't really talked for whatever reason. Segue from not talking, Amalie texted, emailed and called me today just when I was mentally composing a letter I was going to personally handwrite because I have a lot to say and I don't feel like any of the other aformentioned methods do it any justice. It was nice, but short. Understandably so, but it always is. I just feel like...
It's the small things that make a friendship. You can't call someone you haven't seriously talked to in a month and say, "How's your life?" That's not fair. I mean, I could go on for hours about all my professors or how sick I was for a week straight a few days ago or how lonely a three day weekend is when there's no one to spend it with but your laptop and your television set. It's the little things like trying to explain a 'you had to be there' moment anyway because they'll laugh at the retelling if not for understanding. It's texting a short conversation about someone doing a motion that looked like spirit fingers and proceeding to quote Bring It On at each other for a few more texts. It's in finding a way to talk to your best friend every day because they're your best friend no matter what you've got going on. It's telling them about your day even if it was nothing special because a good friend really does just wanna know what you did from the morning until the moment you called. All the tiny things that build up into what you have in common and your differences and how your friendship builds off of that no matter if you're both zombies for lack of sleep in the past 48 hours. Having a ringtone solely for that person so you always know when its them who's calling, even when they so rarely do you almost forget you have it. And for me, it's about hurting or feeling like something is missing when you don't talk to them for a day or two. For me, it's fighting the urge to buy something because it reminds me of them or I know they'd love it, even though their birthdays aren't for months and we just passed Christmas and it's a no occasion gift but I want to send it anyway.
Life just sucks when you feel like you care more about your friends than they care about you, but you know it's not true. (*wards off hugs* I KNOW IT'S NOT TRUE. I KNOW YOU LOVE ME. GLOMPING SHALL NOT COMMENCE.)
Still, however I feel, it's nice to talk to her and I had good food tonight and only three classes, so excluding homework and being on my period, today was a pretty pleasant day.
Okay, now that I've got that all done and out of the way --and it's nice to have off my chest, that's been stewing for a while, sorry I sort of just vomited all of that onto the page just now-- I've got to get to my readings. I was supposed to turn O'Halloran off an hour ago and Cooper, Norton and Emma Bovary are calling my name.
