The True Origin of Mental Symptoms Is “The Structure of Suppression”
In recent years, mental distress has noticeably increased:
Sudden panic episodes
Deep emotional lows
Insomnia
Lack of motivation
Unexpected emotional tears
Even people who had lived without mental symptoms are now experiencing abrupt difficulties within the last 1–2 years.
After working with tens of thousands of clients over more than 20 years, I have witnessed a dramatic increase in mental symptoms—especially since last year.
Some began medication.
Some started counseling.
Some experienced sudden shortness of breath, unable to calm their mind or body.
This is not “just a mood.”
It is the body and psyche signaling: “I have reached my limit.”
■ The Root of Mental Symptoms: Accumulated Suppression
What is this “limit”?
In most cases, the cause is unmistakably clear:
Accumulated suppression — the weight of years of emotional restraint
Most people don’t even realize they are suppressing anything.
That is the core structural problem.
Suppression is not a dramatic emotional event. It is:
Swallowing discomfort
Silencing emotions
Hiding one’s truth
Overperforming to meet expectations
Sacrificing oneself to avoid hurting others
These choices are small, subtle, and easy to overlook.
But over the course of years, something profound happens:
You forget what you have been suppressing
This is where mental distress becomes structural, not psychological.
■ Suppression Is Not Resolved by “Selfishness”
A common misunderstanding:
“If I stop suppressing myself, can I just act selfishly?”
No.
Stopping suppression ≠ attacking others
Stopping suppression ≠ emotional outbursts
True release of suppression requires:
Understanding your inner truth and establishing healthy boundaries
Without that clarity, suppression does not dissolve—it simply changes form.
■ Suppression Has Layers
Suppression is rarely one-dimensional.
It accumulates like sediment:
Suppressing truth
Suppressing needs to avoid conflict
Suppressing for the sake of family stability
Suppressing for social roles
Suppressing for economic survival
Suppressing to be perceived as “a good person”
Layer by layer, one forgets the origin of the suppression.
Mental symptoms worsen not because of surface discomfort, but because:
Your deepest desires, emotional needs, and personal truth are being restrained
■ The Danger Is Structural, Not Emotional
The most challenging part is:
You cannot release suppression if you don’t recognize you are suppressing anything
That is why:
Medication may soothe symptoms
Counseling may create clarity
Effort may create short-term stability
…yet the fundamental structure remains unchanged.
Worse, when the inner truth is unclear and one tries to “stop suppressing,” suppression may externalize:
Attack others as a distorted attempt to reclaim agency
For example:
Exploding at family
Losing emotional control at work
Aggressive behavior online
But this is not the release of suppression. It is the movement of a structure without awareness.
True release is:
Knowing yourself, understanding your needs, and maintaining healthy emotional boundaries
■ To Stop Suppressing, You Must First Know Yourself
If any of the following apply:
You don’t understand your emotional movements
You can’t identify what drains you
Your authentic desires are unclear
You can’t distinguish kindness from self-sacrifice
Then attempting to “stop suppressing” will simply create a new form of suppression.
That is why long-term mental distress is rarely emotional—it is structural.
■ The First Step Is Simple: Write It Down
Stopping suppression is not rebellion or selfishness.
It is:
Observing yourself, knowing yourself, and treating yourself with precision and care
The first step is surprisingly simple:
Write down what you suppress
The areas where you overaccommodate family
The emotions you silence
The things you avoid because of fear
The actions you want but deny yourself
Noticing is transformational.
Stopping suppression means:
Knowing yourself, protecting yourself, and taking responsibility for your own life
When you recognize the suppression, even before changing anything,
the heart becomes immediately lighter
This is not psychological theory—it is structural physiology.
The body and mind visibly change.
That’s all from the field.
