‘How do I feel?’ he cried. ‘Well, I don’t know how to say it. I feel, I feel’ - he waved his arms in the air - ‘I feel like spring after winter, and sun on the leaves; and like trumpets and harps and all the songs I have ever heard!’
I am posting old drabbles on SoA... i didn't know i had fic i didn't post yet. :D Here's to new interest in writing and reading! :D
I raise my ale to the Professor! The world will never be the same with reading your works!
I found a neat quote describing Tolkien and his influence:
Much as I admire Tolkien, and I do admire Tolkien — he’s been a huge influence on me, and his Lord of the Rings is the mountain that leans over every other fantasy written since and shaped all of modern fantasy — there are things about it, the whole concept of the Dark Lord, and good guys battling bad guys, Good versus Evil, while brilliantly handled in Tolkien, in the hands of many Tolkien successors, it has become kind of a cartoon. We don’t need any more Dark Lords, we don’t need any more, ‘Here are the good guys, they’re in white, there are the bad guys, they’re in black. And also, they’re really ugly, the bad guys."
George R. R. Martin, Game of Thrones
Tell others what you drank for Tolkien's bday toast!

THere was local shire event here but i couldn't not make it, alas. Maybe next year!
Enjoy the LOTR EE Trilogy in theaters this weekend in the US
http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2018/08/30/105428-enjoy-the-lotr-ee-trilogy-in-theaters-this-weekend-in-the-us/
I enjoyed this in my part of the Shire last night and it was PHENOMENAL. You don't understand how utterly AMAZING it is to watch the Extended on big screen. I just saw RotK last night but looking forward to at least watching FotR too. I will skip TTT since that is my least favorite. It's only $5 each for each show! What a great deal and what a blessing it is to find time to indulge.
It really never gets old with precioussss movies!!! they're just so amazing each time. I was squee-ing all throughout and couldn't sleep at 1 am last night just squee-ing with grey_wonderer all throughout.
Gosh. I love the movies so much for they really bonded us all in here. We were reminiscing and we are so very lucky to know through this fandom. Fandom love truly is forever even though it's been more than a decade since RotK came out.
Also in other fandom news: FALL OF GONDOLIN IS OUT!
I bought Beren and Luthien, enjoyed Children of Hurin and no doubt will get
http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2018/09/01/105470-j-r-r-tolkiens-fall-of-gondolin-published-finishes-trilogy-of-great-stores/
this too.
And last but not least, let's remember today is when Tolkien passed back in 1973. So in Theoden's words: "Hail to the victorious dead!"
Lots of RL stuff to deal with lately so that's why i've been sparse. There is good and bad and so-so but i'll reserve for a RL post if i feel so inclined... but i did produce fic! (finally! ;)
I come bearing very belated Yule/New Year fic.
First ficlet is for shirebound
She asked for Cormallen or Tol Eressae fic; i chose the former.
"Simple Comforts" featuring Gandalf and Frodo, 500 words
( Read more...Collapse )
This was random, random story...

Remember, the hobbits made me write this. :P :D And they're all Tolkien's, i bother his characters from time to time but all his. <3
Firstly, the HObbit BotFA is coming to theaters in my Shire's theaters in Oct 13!
The way to find tickets are here:

This is awesome! Guess PJ is not done milking this is he? :P :P :P
and there's the LA event that TORN is going to attend as well.... (wished i lived in LA (just for this ;))
http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2015/08/20/99037-the-lotr-extended-edition-trilogy-marathon-in-la-this-september/
Anyone going in the West?

WHO'S WITH ME?????

Also, Tolkien's tragedy: The Story of Kullervo will be out very soon!
http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2015/08/13/98983-new-tolkien-book-the-story-of-kullervo-updated/
Sooner in UK than US... April 2016 better come soon!
Yep... my squeeing will NEVER end. hahahaha >=)

I think everyone is in consensus here ? ;)
Taken from this Happy Hobbit video from TORN: http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2015/04/14/97719-happy-hobbit-hobbiton-episode-61/
So jealous of Kili (Kellie). I was in Middle-earth too but i missed Matamata-- it'll be a dream to go to NZ again! I will definitely go to anything MIddle-earth including the hobbit holes in Matamata that are still intact!
Time to save money fro the next great adventure! ;)
The music is just... omg...soooo appropriate and tugs at my heartstrings soooo much! :*(
was just wanting to hear the Evenstar theme and bumped into all this LotR goodness on Youtube. A re-watching of these classics is long overdue!!! ;)
....
On a different note:
Thank you to mews1945
Did i ever tell you I love Sean Bean and his Boromir? Because i also do...and he's just amazing with his lines and his acting.
and FRODO! I took way too many big scene pics of Frodo. Omg those eyes...the eyes!!! Even sister thought they were "piercing" ;). Speedyhobbit and I squee-ed a lot...we tried to be quiet but i think the family in back of us kept on making funny looks at each other and maybe thought that our action figure playing was a bit odd. :P
And the Manuscripts were very cool today. They were featured at the Fordham University Library. I saw Tolkien's drafts of the Mines of Moria, Tolkien's timelines of where the Fellowship was after the Breaking of the Fellowship and also saw drafts of the hobbit calendar, Tolkien's old menus from Oxford, and even a hobbit measurement system that Tolkien created! (It used toes as the first unit of measurement...and i forgot the rest because i was so in awe...)Think Dreamflower would like to have seen that. ;)
Love.
LotR Fandom is Love.
Now, how to get back down from Cloud Frodo?
awwww Frodo!!!! ;)
Pics coming soon................. they would be courtesy of Speedyhobbit and Grey_wonderer, me thinks. And probably ainu_laire has pics too. :)
FRODO!! :D
So Tolkien came out with a new book posthumously thanks to Christopher Tolkien. "The Legend of Siguard & Gudrun" is out yet i didn't get it yesterday (which was opening day) which is kinda surprising since i usually get Tolkien related things opening day. ;)
Here are some reviews:
http://www.libraryjournal.com/article/CA6655942.html
and Christopher Tolkien answers q's here:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2009/may/05/jrr-tokien-sigurd-gudrun-poem
and from the Washington Post:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/05/04/AR2009050403462.html
(haven't read that one yet but intend to)
Some bits of the review from "The Guardian" here:
Telling in verse the story of Sigurd the Völsung and the fall of the Niflungs – also adapted by Wagner into the Ring cycle – The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrún sees the hero Sigurd kill the dragon Fafnir (a slaying which may have influenced Tolkien's writing of Bilbo's encounter with Smaug in The Hobbit), take his gold and rescue the Valkyrie Brynhild from her imprisonment on a rock surrounded by fire. Love, magic, jealousy, and, eventually, tragedy in the murder of Sigurd and the suicide of Brynhild ensue.
It seems very unlike anything from Middle-earth so i'm not sure if i'm going to get it asap since i have more studying to do till i break for a vacation last week of May. Might coerce MM to get it for me if i do get it. ;)
...
And! the official site for the Radio City Music Hall Fellowship of the Ring concert is up!
http://www.theradiocitylotrconcert.com/
Its' been up for a while and i keep good updates on it via Facebook. :P
Planning to go with 3 ppl already..but which LJers are in??? =) It'll be so cool to have you come for that!
I'm going to get tix soon. :)
It's exciting, mellon nin! :D
It's lessened with the hobbity-ness around here these days so i'm curious on what people squee about here now...
There is obviously still lots of LotR love and squee with "Back to Middle-earth Month" and there are many places still active with LotR love but among my lovely f-list--- what else do you like?
And please comment and tell me about your current obsession. :) That would be nice too...(so i can check it out if i have time. :p)
Cheers, mellyn nin!
What other fandoms are you involved in?
In what ways are you involved?
Sooo behind in LJ land, on the TORN boards-- i mean the most intense chapters of TTT are up, and i would love to reread them and join in the discussion...They're doing the last several chapters of Book 4 and they're oh so squeeful with the Frodo and Sam goodness. :D
The Stairs of Cirith Ungol Part V discussion is up now:
http://newboards.theonering.net/forum/gforum/perl/gforum.cgi?post=125533;sb=post_time;so=DESC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;guest=3031703
Lotr book discussion = Mucho Love. :)
And, and...i have a fic that i wrote, but it's... Sam/Rosie het (omg, peri an writes het :-0 ...must be the recent aging that led to this :P)
and i dunno if it's good so if anyone wants to be emailed it and given a preview, please comment... if it's good, it can be a b-day mathom. ;)
Please be aware of this hobbity event on September 25th:
The Long Expected Party with hobbit holes and all is happening in Shaker Village Pleasant Hills, Kentucky--
http://www.alongexpectedparty.org/
The venue looks really cool! This is organized to celebrate Frodo and Bilbo's b-day near then. ;) I want to go but i think i'm going to Germany in the beginning of the month so cannot make this (will miss too much work!) but want to advertise it because i know who's organizing it (The NY Frodo Daniel and Timdalf) and it'll be cool if there would be more participation!
GMATs soon (in two weeks! :p) but i think i need to reschedule since i've been tired after work so no time to really prep... (sucks because there is $50 rescheduling fee...)
USA Gymnastics with Shawn Johnson & Nastia Liukin winning = so much love-- i watched all of it last night and it was great! (Love gymnastics!)
And swimming's been amazing as well-- Phelps outtouched Savic in the 100 Fly to get his 7th gold medal-- craziness. =) I miss swimming.
...
[EDIT]
Happy belated birthday to danae_b! Hope it was a hobbity one! ♥
...
I will stop babbling and ask how all of you are? Good, so-so, busy?
...
::huggles all mellyn nin:
Happy Froday!
From my trip and back to the LJ land...
Soooo much fic catch-up to do. I must admit i haven't been reading as much as I used to (blame RL and ADD :P)
...I know there is A LOT of fic out there to catch up on. I read some today (squee!!!!) there's nothing like hobbity h/c ;) and back in the hobbity reading mode. (and also worked on my Frodo fic too asap-- i hope i can finish it soon but it's slow going. :(
SO anyways, the reason for this post is that i want a REC-GO-AROUND... So rec me your fics that you want me to read that I might've missed for whatever reason and that i've not commented on.
It was CMEM in March so there is bound to have tons of fics but rec me what *YOU* wrote, k k?
And i signed up for The Last Ship today... will post there when i can-- i've heard that it's very easy to post, right? (Not complex like that fanfiction.net? ;)
♥ Love you all~ ♥ miss ya'll... I'll try to be better with commenting on life and fic. =)
Discussion 7 Climactic scene at the Ford...Showdown between Frodo and Wraiths (if anyone's interested....) :P
http://newboards.theonering.net/forum/gforum/perl/gforum.cgi?post=69850;sb=post_time;so=DESC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread
In coherent form.
Wow. (I was internally being like.... FRODO! and the like...use your imagination at the amount of swoon I would have...;)
But yeah... Frodo ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
So
Darn
Much.
I have 3 more planned discussions and hopefully they'll be up tomorrow...and Sunday (which is my last day to lead... :sigh of relief yet sad to depart: )
I had something else to say...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LILY_THE_HOBBIT!!!!! Hope it'll be a great one with Eliza and hobbits and everything that makes you smile. :)
I'll put up something soon for you! ♥
http://newboards.theonering.net/forum/gforum/perl/gforum.cgi?post=69022;sb=post_time;so=DESC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;page=last;#last
http://newboards.theonering.net/forum/gforum/perl/gforum.cgi?post=69225;sb=post_time;so=DESC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread
Discussions 2&3 are posted...JOIN ME!!! Thanks to ainu_laire fro posting such essays to me. ;)
I need to work on my geography post courtesy of Atlas of MIddle-earth soon...
And i finally got attributed for my response about the morgul wound affecting Frodo differently from others by a Tolkien Scholar in there...
Time to whip out my Letters and his biography and UT and Sil.... XD
ALSO, ALSO, any ONLINE site for maps and the mileage the hobbits did? I have The Atlas of Middle-earth but i need something actually online so i can paste it onto the boards... PLEASE link me asap!
Did i ever mention how much i love Flight to the Ford? ;) ♥
...
On a sobering note,
many condolences to what happened to Heath Ledger. :( *So* tragically sad... :*(
I am so psyched yet nervous because there is some hardcore discussion over there in the Reading Room on the TORN boards... http://newboards.theonering.net/forum/gforum/perl/gforum.cgi?forum=9;
I neeeeed to reread one of my favorite chapters like tonight...because i'm so intimidated still by the amount of good q's and analysis going on in there. (And I can use my shiny *new* paperback LotR one volume 50th anniversary edition to reread. ...I got it from K. for XMas '07, my LotR friend fan from years back ...Now i have TWO paperback one volume LotRs ;)
PRECIOUS!
After this intense week-long discussion next week, i will try to revamp the
readthebook again... i kinda became side-tracked after my initial "wanting to revitalize" in November but got crazy messed-up/busy in RL. :/
Oh...and for those book enthusiasts ... any thoughts you have on Flight to the Ford would be awesome for you to contribute any ideas/thoughts/comments/q's to me. (pretty please, on the cherry on top? ;)
My
readthebook discussion from a while ago can be found here if you want to be so inspired by my first "intellectual" discussion on it:
http://community.livejournal.com/readthebook/45075.html
....
And yes, i know there are two hobbity birthdays coming up next week too. ;)
//EDIT
Good reference:

Gosh, I'm Nervous. :P
//EDIT #2
Wow! Check out this new freshly off the press on TORN about Tolkien being named 6th best postwar writer !
http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/books/article3126270.ece
HOTNESS! :D
Fannish news........
We can win the RotK Complete recordings if we enter this caption contest here:
http://p197.ezboard.com/Contest-80-LotR-Return-of-the-King--Ends-Nov-30/fthedominiumfrm5.showMessage?topicID=2591.topic
I'm not good with being funny in captioning screencaps... guess i will have to try or let someone like grey_wonderer beat me. :P
And this was just up on TORN:
‘Hurin’ Has Legs
Children of Hurin Still Selling Well Ataahua writes: I just checked out the latest issue of Locus magazine, and ‘The Children of Hurin’ has now been in the top-ten list of hardback sales for the fifth month in a row,
Awesomeness. :D Even though just Sci-fi, fantasy bookstore, that is still awesome for a book that *has* been mentioned in Sil and UT before... Just behind Harry Potter ain't so bad. :D
http://www.locusmag.com/2007/Issue11_LocusBestsellers.html
/EDIT/
I signed up to lead discussion on "Flight to the Ford" on TORN for their LotR book discussion... by the way things are going on TORN (in-depth q's and in-depth hardcore answers, quoting like from ten thousand Tolkien sources...and having to write discussion q's everyday it seems on a new theme)...i'm intimidated... :P
I lead discussion in late January though... so plenty of time to prepare... :-0
Sorry a day late but i was thinking the whole day of Frodo and Bilbo's birthdays! yay fro our favorite hobbits! :D :D
It's a month for a lot of fandom anniversaries including The Hobbit's publication of 70 years on Friday 9/21! There's a new Houghton Mifflin version out and i think that's pretty cool... i only have one copy of The Hobbit so maybe (if i can save up :p) buy the Alan Lee version or the new 70th anniversary edition.
Also it's The Silmarillion's 30 year anniversary last Saturday on 9/15... There is this LJ community: http://community.livejournal.com/30yearssilm/
that is commemorating the event with fics and art and everything Silmarillion which is very cool. :)
I'm glad to see there there is also
bagginsbirthday with lots of fics fro our dear hobbits... i need to check them out and read some of them... what a great idea and community. :D
And i have no fic (yet) but can present last year's fics that i wrote in honor of Frodo and Bilbo's birthday. :)
Found here:
http://periantari.livejournal.com/124655.html
...
Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to sue_denimme! I enjoy your drabbles and your trivia so very much and so glad to have you part of LotR fandom. :) Have a great hobbity day, dear! ♥ ♥
Some useful periantari vocab (to understand her LJ better ;):
"dead-ified" (new word! ;) -- when peri an is so hyper and so literally squee-ing and aww-ing to no end because of what suspenseful, good fanfic does to her that she is not functional fro a while and goes hyper to no end. :P
A newly made up periantari vocab word, she gets "dead-ified" when there's an occassional update of fic that she's been following. Usually when the author writes too darn well and makes something too darn angsty/interesting/exciting, that will "deadi-fy" peri an. :P When she is "dead-ified", she will hyperventilate and grin and forget very much what time it is. :P Oh yeah, she can also be really "dead-fied" with really hot hobbit iconses. :) Blends, pretty colors, cropping--stuff like that. :)
"to Frodo" --to do anything LotR, Tolkien related. :P (oldie but goodie)
"squee" --fro hobbits and LotR of course. ;)
hyperventilate-- she used to have an AIM away message that read "stop hyperventilating like that" --usually refers to fanfic updates that makes her squee to no end. :) (therefore breathing becomes secondary. ;)
...
And at long last... i'm going to post slightlytookish and my "LotR Fandom is Love" list inspired by when this person put a "Fandom love" list out...several months ago. :P
I got inspired to write my own and included ST in our pursuit in making 111 in our list in what makes our fandom so special. ;)
Enjoy our 101 reasons list! (we're trying to aim fro 111 so please help us! ;)
( LotR Fandom is...Collapse )
yes, Jen, i finally posted it. ;)
I'm such an ultra LotR dork. :P
