Icons!

So I got inspired the other day to make icons, and yes I know it's something I rarely do anymore... but I was re-encountering the amazing photography of Edward Steichen, and couldn't resist making icons out of some of his work. The awesome thing? I heard about Steichen by randomly encountering a free hard-bound book of his work at the office where my mom gets her treatments; sometimes people bring in books to give away, and this was one of them. I'm so glad I took it, and Steichen remains one of my favorite photographers today. :)

Without further ado... here are icons! This is just the first half... I made so many that I'm going to post them over two posts. Enjoy!

I went and hiked Bishop's Peak today with David Marshall. :) It was a lot of fun! A really good workout, too! I took pictures mostly on the way up, since I was running out of room on my memory card. I saw a cute lizard on the way up and took some pictures of it. :) And you can see David in one of the pictures there. Oh, and picture #14 (DSCF0478) actually is not the top of the peak... it's the peak that is adjacent to Bishop's Peak, which I took a picture of once I was sitting on the top of Bishop's Peak... it's just higher than Bishop's.

Other than that, today I've been updating my resume and getting things together to send in my application for that job I want at Schweitzer Elementary School in Carmichael. Tomorrow I need to make a photocopy of my letter of recommendation and get an 8.5 x 11" envelope to mail it in. I emailed a lady about the position and my concerns with living far away, and this is what she said to me:

Rosanne,

I talked to my supervisor asking her if we can accept your certificate.
She said, no, we cannot. This is what you can do though... you can go a
head and apply for the position, go through a interview and then if you
are offered a job, then you can come take our test. Also, I do not
schedule interviews. Principals do that. So, when a principal calls
you, ask him/her if they can do an interview over the phone or maybe
arrange more convenient time for you.

Lilia Arnest

So... yeah! I'm excited. :) Hopefully I can combine an interview with something else I'd go up there for, like to meet thefaeway's dad and stuff... we'll see. Or maybe I could do an interview on the phone... that'd be good. I really know I'm qualified for this job (heck, I already have it, just not at their school), so I should be able to get it, unless there's some complication with me not living there yet.

Anyway, that's about all for now. I hope everyone else has been having a great week so far! :)

purplesquirrel bought one of my prints from my DeviantArt account awhile back, and he finally e-mailed me a picture of the photo hanging on his wall. :) It's the one photo I am the most proud of out of all the photos I have taken... and that's saying a lot, actually. I did digitally enhance it a bit in Photoshop, but that was just to get the background bits to go away. :) I entered this photo in the Mid-State Fair a couple years ago and won $30 with it. Anyway, here's the picture that Scott sent me of what it looks like on his wall:

And you can go here to see the photo itself larger. :)

It's an honour to have my photo hanging on someone else's wall, and it's cool to see what it looks like. :) Thanks for sharing this with me, Scott, and I'm glad you like my photo!

Oh, and in other news: I got to see baby bunnies today!!! They were sooooooooooo tiny!!! I don't know how old they were, but they weren't more than a few inches long, and they didn't have fur yet. :) I didn't get to touch or hold any of them, but just seeing them made my day. :D

A picture I took on Valentine's Day:

And now I'm going to bed. There are two more photos of this tree, if you'd like to see them.

Well, I've had an enjoyable weekend so far.

Yesterday was pretty lazy. I slept in till about noon, and sat around for awhile. After my parents left I decided to take a little drive out on Creston Road (like, out towards Creston [where my church is]) and see if I could find pretty things to photograph. I did, but at the same time it was tough to find places where I could stop and not feel awkward that someone might see me and think I was trespassing on their property or something (which I might have done, I'm not sure - it gets tricky out in the country, to know whether you're on someone's property or not). It was cool, though. It was about 6:30, so the sun was starting to go down, and was at a spot in the sky where the lighting for my photos was really nice. If you have spinningheadart on your friends list, you'll see I posted 5 of those photos today.

After that I went and picked up some dinner at Tacos Jalisco, my favourite Mexican food place here in Paso... it's super close to my house, and it's really good authentic Mexican food, and it's cheap... and the cool thing is no one there really even speaks English, so I get to practise my Spanish when I go there and order food. ^_^ After that I went home, ate my yummy food, and was a couch potato for a couple hours, till my love called me around 9:30. He got a ride back to base last night with the freakin' Sergeant Major! I thought that was pretty awesome. Haha, and the Sargeant's daughter was talking with Phillip and they found out they're both into Phantom of the Opera music, so they were singing together on the way back... lol, that is so something I could picture Phillip doing. :P

Anywho, I got to bed entirely too late last night for what I planned on doing this morning, but at least I still woke up this morning for it... I went to the Cowboy Church out at the Creston Rodeo, which was pretty cool. Dusty, and allergy-filled, but cool. Trish and Stephanie (Phillip's mom & sister) came, which was awesome. I'm hoping they might come to a regular church service sometime out in Creston. And I also saw Jessica's family there, which is always cool. I'm planning on going rollerblading this afternoon with her cousin Kelly and Kelly's friend, which will be very cool, since I haven't gone rollerblading in ages, it seems. Last time I went skating it was on ice, lol, and that was in Virginia! So it's been awhile.

That's about it for now. I hope everyone's having a relaxing Sunday!

I just created spinningheadart, a feed that should share my deviantart with you guys, if you want to add it to your friends list. I haven't seen exactly how it works yet, but hopefully it's good. ^_^

Well, I've been having a great time so far in Connecticut! I went out with my sis today, and went shopping at fun places. I got some cheap clothes on close-out at Bob's, and I sent out a bunch of postcards today, too, so those of you who requested postcards, you should be getting them sometime soon! We also did some laundry and took a walk through a pretty park. It's been fun to spend time with her and go places together like we used to do. ^_^

I talked with Phillip tonight, and he's leaving to go to Bangor, Washington on Monday, he says. So this will be his last weekend in Virginia. I guess he's going to help me get home by buying me a one-way plane ticket to get back, since travelling standby has proven to be pretty impossible and much more trouble than it's worth... I'm just regretting spending $70 on those tickets... Phillip acted like I could get some or all of that money back, but I'm not sure. I'll have to talk to Gregg about it. But it looks like I should be going home on the 14th, for sure. I'll probably fly into San Jose, but then I'm not sure how I'll get home from there... if nothing else, perhaps I can take a bus.

That's about all for now... I'll update more with photos sometime soon. I have tons of photos to post... mostly from the zoo, so far, though, so most of them will probably show up on thrumylens instead of here.

Goodnight everyone!
