at the moment i'm into non-fiction books about punk bands and that era, but i also read anything else i can get my hands on. but i prefer books about music.

i think the only thing i'm really any good at is music, so anyone who knows summat about it would be really ideal. i love having discussions about music genres and people and... stuff. i play guitar, ukulele, piano, drums, a bit of violin. all self-taught, so i don't have much theory knowlege. sorry.

what i would prefer in a penpal:

Books: Oh jeez, does fan fictions of questionable legalty count? ...No? Hmmm... I read sporadically, but they're usually horror (Let the Right One In) or fantasy (Monsterous Regiment). I respect the classics like I respect the great-aunt who smells like antiseptic and death. From far away, with minimal contact.

TV: Weed, The Simpsons, South Park, Supernatural (eye candy, really), Star Trek TOS. I'm also thinking about getting into Office. ETA: COLBERT REPORT LIKE A MOTHEFUCKER. <333

Films: Oh, jeez.... Lemme see my netflix account. Oh, Rocky Horror Picture Show (dat sweet Transvestite from Transexual Transylvania...), American Psycho (dat opening scene...), and 3:10 to Yuma (dat bittersweet ending...) are definately up there. 28 Days Later, Amistad, Brokeback Mountain, Chicago, The Full Monty, I, Robot, Lady Vengeance and the two preceding Vengeance movies are all great. So was Born into Brothels.

Looking For: Someone who's not easily offended. But someone who knows the difference between humor and insult. And pleaes, no wapanese. If you're honestly interested in Japanese culture, fine, so am I, but if you write out "kawaii ^-^" every three sentences, I'm going to have to kick someone.)

How Long Have You Been Writing To Pen Pals: I had one a year or two ago, and I've had Japanese pen pals for a year now. Not that I'm actually good enough to converse in Japanese. But then again, the Japanese kid usually is as bad in English as I am in Japanese, so it all evens out nicely.
Snail Mail/Email: Snail mail, for their personal touch.
Letter Length: Anything short of an ecyclopedia series. Then it's a bit too much, even for me.
Handwrite/Type: Handwritten letters are so much more personal.
How Long For A Reply: Usually as soon as I get the letter. But then again, I'll be a Junior and Junior year is hell on earth. But no longer than two days, for sure.
How Many: How many what? Penpals? I've had only one before, but I'm willing to make arrangements. There's enough me for every single one of you. <3

Personal Info: I'm currently University, studying English Literature. I will reply right away if possible, however I always make sure I've got time to write a decent response and not rush through what I’ve read or written. Lets see here, I figured I should probably write a good bio this time instead of the usual where i live, age, hobbies, ect.

My name is K, and I'm young, but old at heart. I'm nearly 18 years old, but have been through more than most teenagers. I have my issues, but I also have some great qualities. I have a difficult time making friends in real life due to some social anxiety, and what not. I'm also bipolar, but I promise I wont pull a crazy on you! As far as what I enjoy doing...I love to write! its probably the one thing that I do especially well, and it also shows in my letters. I listen to a variety of music depending on my mood, and I also enjoy reading! I'd love to travel someday(I've been to a few countries in Europe, but thats it.) but I'm not all that sure when. if you spend a lot of time online & want to be involved in a penpalling/email group called an RTA (which you may be familiar with) then take a look under the cut. this is not an advertisement, and because RTA's stay small so it's relatively close-knit, there's not that many 'spaces'... we're just looking for active, talkative, fun people who love to send email, tell others about their life and friends and feelings and personality as well as fun emails like sharing photos, inspiring posts, art and whatever you feel like. please don't be intimidated if you don't know what an RTA is. they truly are fantastic & if you learn, appreciate, join & be active in one - they're really fun.

i've made & developed RTA's since i was 13 (i'm now 18) and they've all been successful. my current RTA project is called strive and it has been going since around february time. it's active, random, conversations going everywhere, close-knit, trusting and loyal. we're all great friends.

hello :D the email group is called 'strive' :) okay, i'll try & tell you all you need to know best way;

* there's 11 of us and we all send mail. the rta is very active, you could receive 10 to 70 emails a day, it changes & goes up & down depending on what everyone is doing in their lives. please note (and 20% of members that join end up leaving because apparently this is not clear) that you will need to be online a lot of the time. you don't have to reply to every single email, because not everyone email will apply to you. like message board conversations, you reply to what you want & want appeals to you. don't feel like 'oh gosh i have 140 emails, how on earth am i going to reply to those?!' because you won't be involved in all of those. time management is key, and if you already come online a lot it should be easy. we all have lives. the majority of us are college students. but, we want you to send mail at least every day. that means replying to other peoples threads/emails (which could be photos, surveys, questions, advice, stuff about their day) and especially sending stuff about yourself & YOUR life.
* please sign up for gmail because this allows you to put emails in pictures & send bulk mail :)
* when you reply to email from the group, you always click 'reply to all' which is what RTA stands for
* sending your own mail is very encouraged; e.g diary updates, life updates, questions, surveys, something on your mind, photos, etc. basically; anything! you just talk.
* replying to everyone elses emails are essential & if you fail to reply you get took off the list. this means that if you disappear, and only reply randomly say 5 emails a week... you're going to be removed. why? because you're not replying to everyone elses emails. think about it, if someone sits & writes out an 'update' about their week and it takes them, say, an hour... and you don't reply, it's not very nice & shows your lack of friendship and commitment. if you don't send mail, and delete the majority of it, there's just no point being in there.
* it's very active & i recommend you only join if you are online 4/5 hours a day every 3 days or so? i'm on every day or every other day, even though i'm a full time college student... because emailing in rtas is one of my hobbies so i always make time :)
* when you first join, i send a 'welcome email' to the whole group introducing you & telling you the rules/gudelines and basics and encouraging you to start sending mail. then you & everyone else in the group send out an 'introduction email' of yourself which is a big email that let's everyone know about you & your life with photos or quotes or music, anything you like. these introductions are replied to by everyone in the group & failure to do so will just look like you don't want to get to know that person. for example, when you join & you send yours out... everyone will reply & we expect you to do the same to ours :]
* what happens with replies is that when someone sends an email, like this... it'll go to the whole group. say you want to reply, you click 'reply to all' and highlight what you want to reply to. like a group conversation. and that reply goes to the whole group so everyone can always see what you're saying... so if you have something to say about what someone else said, e.g a question or something about themselves or what they did the other day, like in real life you can 'join in' that conversation by replying to the whole group.
* it's really not confusing, and if you have the time & send email, are active & reply to everyones stuff, you develop really good friendships with everyone & it's really fun. it's like an online 'safety net' where you can talk about your life to a group of people, who you all know and so can trust, rather than a huge messageboard or livejournal community.

I’m Sally. I’m 15 and I live in Australia.
I’m into a lot of things, but when it comes to listing them, I just can’t seem to think of any.
I hate writing about myself like this.
I love music. Not playing it, because I’m not good at that, but I really like just listening. The lyrics are the most important in a song I think. I enjoy photography, but I don’t think I’m very good. I collect photos and quotes.. I have an obsession with literary quotes. I like reading too, but I’ve not had much time to read lately. I haven’t read a good book since I was 13 and I have a HUGE list of books I want to read!
My life’s been pretty crazy so far but I think that there’s always someone worse off, so I can’t really complain. Sometimes I just love to just rant, or ask random questions and I like listening too.
I have Cancer, although I hate telling people because I feel like as soon as I tell them, they feel sorry for me, or are afraid to talk to me. I’ve almost finished my two year treatment. A lot has happened since I was diagnosed and it’s been really hard but I’m almost fully recovered! Whoo!
Writing is something I like to do in my spare time. I’m not very confident though, so I don’t let anyone read my work. Ooh, I also like Sketching. I’m not the best drawer ever, but I love to do it, so it doesn’t really matter.
I want a pen pal who will email. Even though I’d love to write snail mail, it would proably cost a lot, and not be very reliable. Also, someone that doesn’t agree with everything I say, but isn’t really horrible to me either! I'm straight, and I've been living with my boyfriend for a year now. He's four years older than me, but I believe our love to be sincere. I've only had three boyfriends so far, but it's true that I get along more easily with guys, because I find them more straightforward than girls. However, boys will be boys, after all.

My main interests are Literature, Philosophy and Writing in general. When I was in high school, I would write novelettes and drabbles a lot, but this is no longer possible today, sadly. ='( However, let make this clear: I HATE JUNK FICS. Hentai, Yuri or Yaoi fics are totally dull and devoid of any interest. I mean, a fic is supposed to have a plot, or, at least, a storyline, while those kinds of fiction are simply trash and only work as outlets for immature teenagers' hormonal surges. o.O

Another thing which deeply upsets me is grammar and spelling mistakes. I do not pretend to be perfect either, but I've always tried to reach a decent level of spelling. IMHO, native speakers shouldn't make ridiculous English mistakes, apart from typing mistakes, of course.

Btw, I tend to use smileys and (commonly accepted) abbreviations way too much, so I suppose you'll have to get used to it. ^_^;;; Oh, and one last thing: I'm not here to find new Friends. My social life already satisfies me much, but I'll be glad to meet new people all around the world.

Personality: I tend to be shy in large groups. In fact, I don't like large groups of people. I distance myself from them. But with a small group of my close friends, I feel a whole lot more accepted. Over the years, with the help of my best friends, I have learned who I truely am and to become more outgoing of a person. Now, I am more willing to state my oppinion and not be scared of what people think. I really don't care, as long as I stay true to who I am.

I find myself to be the most open person I know. I hate choosing sides so I tend not to. Mostly, I just get as much information from all sides of a story and then make a conclusion for myself. It takes me a while to absorb things and formulate an oppinion. But when I do, it all seems so clear and I'm quite satisfied with it.

This is hard: trying to analyze my personality.

Writing out what I'm trying to say is the easiest for me. In person, I'm awkward. On the phone, it's even MORE awkward. Writing what I feel and waiting for that someone to read it gives me the most comfort. Also, I talk really quietly sometimes so people usually talk over me, not to be rude, but just becuase they didn't hear me start talking. When writing, people tend to spend more time listening. They can reread it over and over instead of judging one thing that you said aloud.

Interests: Music is the most beautiful human creation. I mostly listen to rock/ alternative/ indie/ pop/ religous. I love heavy piano and guitar. But I am open to a lot of other genres. Recently though I've just been writing about one theme, about one paragraph, about what i think about that subject.

Art is another huge part in my life. My favorite things to do would be collaging, sketching, painting and mostly construction (as in 3D art. and design) I've actually thought of being a digital illustrator. I LOVEEEE photography!!! I try out diffent angles and effects. I'm taking a digital media class this year so i hope to learn photoshop. when im bored i take pictures of myself. that might sound self-absorbed but for some strange reason, i find it fun. ^_^ (i name smileys...that one is Jenny)

Why do I want a pen pal?: cause it would be awesome talking to someone close by, across the world, or just across the country and learn. I like to broaden my horizons.
